Default clock question

Has anyone had trouble with their clock illumination? The clock works fine, just no illumination at night. Also, do the controls for the rear air illuminate? Mine do not and my 87 doesn't have rear air so nothing to compare to. My 87 clock does illuminate just fine. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Ditto no light. I read at some point that this is an optic fiber illumination (to the rear ac) which is frequently broken by the unlamented PO pulling off the ***** to access the console brushes. Haven't bothered with the clock as yet.

The digital clock in my 84 and the round analog in my 81 both illuminate. The light intensity is controlled by the same control that dims the dash lights. I am not sure what the light source is on the digital. On the analog it is a simple bulb in the body of the clock.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I know that the temp/vent sliders are fiber optic and break easily, thats why I wondered if it was the same for the rear vent and clock. The clock in my 87 is very bright, so I would tend to think that it is a bulb. I will pull it tomorrow to take a look and will post my findings. Thanks!

My 89 has the digital clock. It has separate live wiring (blue/black) to the bulb and a common earth (ground) with the clock movement. The clock doesn't light up and I can't figure it out but I suspect a partial earth fault. I think the reason it has separate wiring is because it is intended to be dimmed by the instrument light potentiometer.

The digital clock on mine has a blub in the back. You might want to check the blub, make sure it isn't out. There is no light for the back a/c controls, I don't believe any MY has it for them.
