Default Bleeding air out of the 928 S4 cooling system

Hey guy's I'm gonna do that ATF line tonight on the 928 and I was wondering after I remove the upper radiator hose how I can bleed the air out of it after I put everything back on.

What about the ATF line after I remove that too? Is there any way to get the air out of the transmission cooling system, or does it circulate out eventually, or bubble up in the reservoir?

If all you've done is drain the rad, generally the system will refill easily without any air bleed required: it takes some time to get the last quart in, but start up and it will run in. If bleeding is required, I loosen the uppermost thermal sensor on the thermostat housing.
No bleed required for the trans - just get the trans level correct on a warm, level, running engine.

well Garth, I'm not bleeding the entire radiator. I'm removing the upper radiator hose.

OK, same issue - same response: to rephrase, "if all you've done is partially or completely drain the rad ... "
Any air trapped in the upper hose when replaced normally passes back to the resevoir/fill tank via the long 1/4" line feeding from the top drivers side of the rad. You shouldn't have a problem with trapped air.

Stig;

On the drivers side of the rad is the line to the overflow bottle. Loosen that clamp and remove hose as you fill the overflow tank. Run the car to temp with the heater full blast. Massage both rad hoses at the same time watching for fluid exiting the overflow nipple (dr. side rad tank). Sometimes it helps to have the car slightly elevated in the front, thus making the overflow nipple the highest point in the system.

I drained my rad several times last year. I didn't have to do anything more than run the car, squeeze the hoses, add coolant, run the car, squeeze the hoses... you get the picture. It's not a PITA like a 944 in that respect.

Based on your postings in OT, you know how to squeeze hoses, right, Stig? Just don't crush them flat with that grip you've developed...

haha THaddeus

Well guys I couldn't get that damn ATF line off. It looks like the fan shroud is gonna have to come off and I have no way of getting under the car nor the time to undertake a project as removing that stupid shroud just to get to one little line. I'm gonna give my buddy a call on monday to see how long it will take to change it out. Looks like I'm gonna go the $$$ route

I did however fix the passenger electric fan and it's coming on again properly I got the system filled properly with coolant too. Ironically the cooling system is a tad bit easier than a 944.

Sometimes I hate the space issues and clearance in these cars but oh well. Still plenty worth it
