I was replacing vacuum items and found what you describe on this horse-shoe hose. It looked far worse than any of the other hoses. Everyone should inspect this hose if they haven't already replaced it.
Steve, Can you provide an exact location for this line or a picture? Thanks.

Got a new puter at work, so I don't have PET for the moment, will try to get to it at home. Pics maybe this weekend. The shape is distinctive "U" connecting the two rails IIRC. No fittings on ends: clamps.

Under air box, over flywheel housing, near fire wall. Since heat flows back and up, this must be the hottest location on exterior of the engine.

Steve, Thanks. Pics and part numbers for the line and clamps would be great but I'll look for it by your description anyway. This might have to be added to the mandatory replacement list for all our cars. Can anything be done to shield this line from heat?
