Sounds like a steal - but remember it takes about $15k to get it registered in the US. Before that, my best guess is somewhere in the neighborhood of $2k for shipping.

That's a very expensive 928 in this part of the world.
The guy probably tried to sell it locally and the best he would be offered would be about 10K US.

There are currently 2 GTS's for sale here at around that [rice. Becuase of low values it's extremely difficult to find older Porsches in good condition.

Porsches here are valued by their model year, regardless of condition. It's stupid I know. But then so are people who buy them Porsches are a nightmare to sell on because few people want the older models and thus prices are very low.

Yep - and that would be a good price, if there were no extra cost. One thing I forgot are import duties and VAT. Even if they took the car back to Germany they'd have to pay import taxes. Because for some strange reason, if a car comes back after more than a few years, even Germany considers it a foreign object.

Sounds like there is a lot of room for negotiations here...

I bet that there are ways around that. If a Swede stays out of Sweden for a year or more and owns a car for more than six months it can be brought back without any extra import fees.

Same in Germany - but I think the car needs to be registered to that person for that amount of time also.

Who would move to Quatar for a year just to save import taxes on a 928?

There was a pic of a yellow GTS on Porsche's website a couple years ago that was available for download as desktop/wallpaper. I had a copy but can't seem to find it. I wonder if it was the same car?

Quick search of the web and voila!

Color looks different, but that's probably just the camera. Could be the same car?

There is one confirmed speed yellow GTS here in the US. Another was rumored in CA, to be a 95 5-speed with 16k miles, that was wrecked/destroyed and parted last year. I cannot verify this with Carfax and the dismantler that did it has no records to support the story so it may just be urban myth?

This car was also in Qatar. It is/was a 93 5-speed with leather everywhere and a wood package. Awesome car! I was in the process of buying it when the owner hit a rock in the road with it and tore up the underside pretty good!

More likely to be this car as the car in the picture does not appear to have a wood steering wheel.

This car was for sale in Germany a few years ago:
