Sorry for the delay, I had one of those 14 hour days at work. Here are some pics of Ken's tool in action as well as the factory dial indicator. Sorry about the picture quality, had to use the old camera.

Enjoy.

Very helpful pics thanks ... did you buy or borrow the special gauge mounting tool?

Heinrich,

I borrowed it. I would say that the right tool makes it much easier to be accurate. The shop manuals have a good picture of the setup, and it shouldn't be too hard to make something up that would be solid and accurate.

Jim,

Thanks very much for the pics!

(Nice of you to have the same color car as the other Jim = user manual continuity. )

Nick,

I have not put it back together yet. The cam covers are supposed to be ready this afternoon(red powder coat), so I'll know more this weekend. I still need to get my state inspection done, as well as a dyno session with the SC. After that, it's time to break out the G-Tech meter and let it rip.

The car ran very well prior to this adjustment even with the cams being a few degrees off each, so I expect it to be even a little stronger. We shall see.

Ken,

If you need larger originals, let me know-I took just a few more. Thanks for the conversion on the numbers on the cam lifts-it matched what I came up with. Better to double check and do this just once.

Jim,

The picture size is fine since I shrink them down anyway. If you have any angles from above, showing the indicator in the 'V', that would be helpful.

I am just dying to find out how changing the cam timing affects the (turbo)supercharged engines. (I'm guessing retarding is the ticket.) I am so used to just going and doing it, when I want to find out something. 'Honey bunny' says it's teaching me patience.

(Note: the third and fifth picture are the same)

I have the same question. My car's apart right now, and I am curious what the SC'd guys are doing. I venture that there is some overlap with the factory setup, and I would further expect that reducing the overlap would help, since there's no advantage to blowing some of the fuel/air charge out of the exhaust before it's ignited.

Do any of the SC guys or SC racers have pointers regarding custom timing of the cams? My mechanic is happy to set them wherever I specify, but isn't comfortable making a recommendation that deviates from the WSM.

This is the link I used when setting my cam timing, it most certainly is a PITA to do, nothing stays put, but very satisfying when you eventually get it right.
