Default 2 New 928 Collectibles... 928 Buyers Guide now in stock!

Over the weekend I added two new 928 Collectibles to my store at www.hookedoncars.com.

1. A 1:43 scale model of the 928 S4. It has a few elements from later cars, such as the GT rims and painted rear spoiler, but is really detailed nicely. I think it should be part of every 928 model collection. I have 15 of them in stock at this time.

Click here to see the description

2. I am now taking pre-orders for David Hemmings' new 928 Buyers Guide. This book was written by one of the UK Porsche Club's 928 experts and is pretty comprehensive in how to evaluate a potential buy.

Click here to see the description These books are scheduled to arrive in late April and should ship in early May.

Also, for a limited time I'm offering the Jörg Austen Technical Documentation book for $39.99 - that's $10.00 off its regular price of $49.99. This offer ends April 30, 2005.

Thanks everyone for your responses!

In regards to the David Hemmings book: If you want one from my first batch, please pre-order it from the store. Once the books arrive, I will ship in the order I have received payments.

I added another "speical" for April - if you don't have a 1:87 scale Herpa 928 S4, yet, you can now order one from the store at $14.99 (reg. $16.99). These are very highly detailed mini-models of the 928 that come in a beautiful clear display box. If you don't like the color - these models are easily taken apart and resprayed in any color you like - just visit your local hobby store and get some model kit paint... Judeging from the comments I get buyers of these models love them - most tell me they are amazed by the level of detail and quality, despite the small size. Click here for more info!

Nicole, I have an extensive 928 collection in my display case and it is constantly growing. However, I have not been able to find any GTS diecast collectables. Are there any out there?

Hi Keith:

I have been looking for GTS related items for quite some time, but the only thing I found was a hat pin from the factory, and some posters.

I suspect that toy makers think the GTS is not enough of a change from the earlier models to justify new castings, or that there were not enough of them made to justify creating a GTS model from scratch. It's sad...

So for now, all I can recommend is try to find GTS pins and posters on ebay, and hope that Chuck Z will launch a successful campaign for making a high quality 1:18 scale model of the GTS.

From what I've heard they've been pushed back until late 2005. I'm starting to wonder if they'll ever be released.

Ditto. Please let us "earlier model-year" guys know when these replicas are available. Black, preferably. Thanks!

Who do we need to email, call, go see to, bribe, harass and beat up to get them done?

Nicole: Is it my browser or does the legend on the stand say "...S-4 1986"?

The last digit looks like a "6" to me.

Yes, it says 1986, because the S4 was first released in mid-1986 (as a 1987 model year). In many countries, people go by production year and month, not model year.

For example, if you buy a 1987 model that was made in 1986, you know it has lived through one more winter than a 1987 model that was made in spring of 1987...

But it's very easy to cut off that "1986" part from the sticker on the socket, and make the text "Porsche 928 S4" only. And you don't have to put the car on the socket in the first place.

Overall, this is a great model, with a lot of detail. Even the black trim around the glass is there!

The 928 Buyers Guide Books by David Hemmings have arrived this morning.

Those of you who have already ordered (and paid), I will ship your copy later today.

If you have not ordered, yet, please visit the 928 Buyers Guide page of my online store.

Also note the 928-related promotions from my earlier posts; those run until the end of April.

Nicole,

Don't forget to bring some stuff over to the "Sharks in the Park" again. I could use a few more 'lil Porsches.

Jason: I just had an email exchange with the importer, and they have no ETA for the 1:18 scale 928 models, yet. I'll try to get them as soon as they arrive in the US.

Rob: Shakrs in the Park i a must, and so is a little vendor table... See you there!
