Doug-

Thanx for the info! It's not often that someone posts something a page long in an answer to one of my questions!

-Incidently, my dad, who taught me most of what I now about cars, echo'ed your thoughts RE my 20 minutes of patient idling while I clean the windows. He says "Drive it, but drive it gently". I was just worried about the time delay- a car driven each day sees a different life from a car driven like hell for 13 then parked for 17.

I've used Castrol GTX 20/50 for 20 years through four cars- a '77 VW Golf, an '85 VW Scirocco turbo, a '92 VW Corrado VR6, and my current '85 928S2. The Scirocco came with Castrol, and ran about 100 C oil temperature for several months until I switched to Mobil 1...and suddenly it came up 10 C hotter! When I switched back to Castrol...it stayed the same. I think it was the aforementioned "kudos" that did that, though I cannot back that up. For this reason and others I've stayed away. I'm worried, but I'm going to give the synthetic thing a try, since these have a wide 5W-40 viscosity and it appears that 50 weight is probably overkill even in Florida's 33C heat.

Well, it's either leaks on the garage floor or not. The bearings are what's important!

N!

Doug,
Thanks, I have been running Mobil 1 in my other vehicles. I used Vavoline synthetic this last time as people reccomended it for 928's. I will get the SUV 5W-40 at Walmart for this go around and pick up the Delvac 1 when it is convenient.

JPTL,
The Stag has been a pretty good car overall. I rebuilt everything in it over the last 15 years. I doesn't get driven nearly enough since getting the 928! I should get the 928 back together this weekend after the motor mount, pan gasket, baffle, waterpump, tensioner, belt change, O2 sensor, and rebuilt alt.

Cheers,
Glenn
