Default replacing rear wiper blade

I knew I needed a new rear blade, but I didn't realize quite how bad it was - the actual wiping part is completely gone.

The wiper is not refillable. So I'll need the whole blade. The blade looks normal, but they way it attaches to the arm is non standard. Can you remove the pin and plastic piece from the blade to put into a new one, or do you need to get these pieces and install them anew?

Look again - the pin stays put! There's a spring clip that releases it. Any replacement the right size (IIRC - 18") should work fine!

That releases the blade from the arm.

How do I get the pin out of the blade, to put it on a new blade?

The blade should slide out, the arm is near imposible to get at a resonable price. I too thought that I needed the whole assem. but it just needed a blade replacement. There is a metal tab that you push up to release the wiper assem.

Good luck

I'm clearly doing a horrible job explaining what I've got. But Bill grokked it. I guess that means I need to get a "Porsche" or OEM blade, I can't just get a generic Bosch or something and then get the bits to attach it to the arm?

Get the Bosch - heck, even with an ANCO - it'll have the "bits" you need to hook it up!

Yeah, Bosch or Anco or OK in my book. I've used both and they are good.

Thanks for the responses everybody. I'd really like to get a blade that has silicon instead of rubber - I really like the PIAA's I have on my Saab. I wish i'd kept the old adaptors they sent with to see if there's one that would work.

I'll probably end up ordering one, 19 inches fits front and back, and I'll see if it fits. If not, I can take the refill and it should fit on the front.

Either that or 928 Specialists has a rear blade that probably has all the right stuff, but is probably non-refillable like what I have.

I'll let ya know what I find. chris

On my '87 S4 the blade assembly can be replaced by removing the silver pin that goes through the blade holder into the arm. There's a small piece of metal on the end of the arm that you push down to release the pin. You have to angle the pin when you pull it out to get it to come out all the way. You can also just replace the blades by sliding one end backward out of the slot on the end of the blade holder. I'll post pics tomorrow (Thurs.), I can't find my camera to computer connector but I have a card reader at work.

Please excuse the pollen all over the window, can't get away from it this time of year in GA (even in the garage). Here are the pics:

Hope it helps!

John, thanks for the pics. The wiper I have is of unknown origin, and is not replaceable. But it looks like the Bosch blades come with the pin so that you can replace the whole deal. I thought I'd need to take the pin out of my blade so I could use it on the new blade, and I couldn't figure out how to get it out.

Too the auto parts store this weekend!

Well, this thread was hardly necessary. Just got the el cheapo NAPA blade, comes with a pin adaptor. I'd just never had a car with that type, I didn't realize it was pretty common.

Working blade is on the back, hopefully that guarantees sunshine for some time.
