While on the subject, this is interesting. Someone said something about using Avgas:

avgas is ~110 ocatane and is leaded. You risk messing your converters and messing with the law....

I put 100LL avgas in my car a few years ago to see if it would minimize my hesitation problem-see my "Rough Running" threads. I recommend that you do NOT do this.

-If you're stupid, take a 5 gallon can of gas to your nearest FBO [Fixed Base Operator; they sell gas and handle aircraft rentals/maintenance/service at your local general aviation airport] and tell them that you have a Cessna 152 parked at a grass strip outside of town. They'll then happily fill your can with 5 gallons of "blue" fuel- this stuff contains a small amount of lead, hence the name. This means that it will hurt your catalytic converters.

When you get home [or at least out of sight of the FBO since both YOU and them can get in huge trouble with the Federal government for putting non-taxed fuel in your car~], pour the avgas in your tank and see what happens. If you have an '87 or later car, you will pick up a few horsepower, since your fabulous knock sensors will sense less incipient knock and advance your timing, thus increasing your power per degree of throttle depression and essentially making your engine more efficient.

If you have a pre-S4 like me...then you can be like me and enjoy the singular enjoyment of fouled plugs. You see, the 100LL in my car caused the 4664 cc engine to run so cool that it actually started to foul its plugs. In the end, I wound up a day later with a car that was running slightly rough and felt down on power. I poured the 5 gallons of 100LL in when the car was basically empty; the cure to the rough running was the immediate addition of a full tank of 93 octane Chevron.

-I paid $2.20 per gallon for the 100LL.... back when the local 93 octane Chevron [which nearly every racer at Orlando Speed Word used] was $1.40 gallon. I think that Avgas is upwards of $3.00 per gallon now...

The long and short is that you are stupid if you use anything other than what your Chevron dealer can pour into your tank.

N!
