Brett- There are a few good mechanics in your area. If you choose to go to a dealer you will pay through the nose and Mark is correct in what he says regarding dealers and their knowledge of 928 cars. Reitzl in Norwell wanted $3000 for a T/B and water pump service. On top of that they wanted $2000 to do the annual service. Needless to say I dont go there.

I use a shop in Stoughton Ma. called Randolph Racing. The owners name is Kevin and he has worked on both my 928's (past and present). His shop is not too far off Rt. 24 which would be easy for you to get to. I wish I could give you a hand but I use a mechanic for a reason---Extra parts are always laying around after I fix things.

Good luck and if you need the number let me know.

I will call them on Monday. Blowout happened on Route 24 actually. Hit a pot hole in Fall River on Route 79 leading to Route 24...and the tire blew right before Exit 17 on Route 24 in Brockton. I have seen ads online for Randolph racing. I thought they were 911 Specialists. Thank you very much. I appreciate everyones input. I will keep everyone informed as to what causes a dead car after a tire blows...AAArrrrgggghhh!

Everyone thinks they a shop for 911's but they work on all Porsche cars. When you are there have Kevin show you some of the sick 911's he has put together. I took a ride in a 85' 911 fitted with a 993 engine and I couldnt believe how fast the car was.

Let me know when you are going to be there and I will drop in. I will be there on Saturday.
Good luck

Jim

OK....Got the baby towed to a local mechanic about 10 minutes from my house. Metric Motors was recommended by a local 928 owner who has a supercharged 1988 S4 I believe. Said they had worked on numerous 928's and he thought they were reasonable.....Anyway......Fuel pump is very hot and not pumping fuel....so I think I am getting away easy on this one.....new pump going in Tuesday... I will keep you all posted. I have to thank Kevin from Randolph Racing in Stoughton for calling back promptly....and Moon928 for his help also.....Metric Motors is a 15 minute round trip from home while Randolph Racing is about an 50 minutes each way give or take....Thanks again

Sounds like it worked out. For future reference there is a racing shop on Natick Ma by the name of European Performance Engineering. The owner is Jerry Pelligrino. They are an excellent Porsche shop and have lots of 928 experience. Before I built my own shop, they did all the work on Gretch. TB H2O pump, clutch, and various suspension and engine work like cam tower seals... Jerry always treated me fairly and his work is top notch. (He is well known in 911 racing circles too).

Very high recommendation.

Sounds like an easy fix, Brett.

Let us know if this resolved the problem.

I suggest having them test that the in-tank fuel pump is working while they have the main fuel pump out.

Excellent suggestion, for it's skinney little neck could be broken - starving the main pump - which would make it run hot ...

Brand New..all had less than 400 miles on them. December 10th purchased 4 Chromed 17" TT993 Rims, new from Wheelenhancement.com and put 4 Yokahama AVS tires on them. New tire should be here Tuesday afternoon. The potholes around here from the horrendous winter we have had are brutal. Some are the size of Bath tubs..well almost anyway.

My pet theory is that main pumps fail more often than not as a result of ingesting a piece of a broken in-tank pump...

Installed a new fuel pump and she started right up. Only problem I have now is my rim. After getting the rubber off, I found a crack in the rim. So it is off to be welded and straightened. What A friggin pothole. $150 for a tow, $400 for the fuel pump and filter replacement/installation, $100 for the rim fix, $130 for the tire. Guy fixing the rim said he could probably straighten it but it may have a slight, unnoticable woble due to the way it did bend. Won't know till I get a tire on it and have it balanced. Thanks again everyone for the help.
