928 105 606 0R : What MY Does This Tensioner Fit?
928 105 606 0R is the number on a tensioner unit I recently purchased used...but the number doesn't match up with any that I'm finding (It also has 1888 on it). It's supposed to be for a 1985 or 1986 928 but the numbers don't match any that I'm finding. I have most PET numbers (but not all) and none for any tensioners prior to 1980. Could this be for an earlier car...or just an odd number that really was used in '85-'86? I don't want to take any chances on using the wrong part. You know the consequences.
Thanks for any help you might have.

AFAIK all part numbers where number ends to R are casting numbers. This means they can't be found from PET and finished part always has normal part number also. Usually it's not visible in these cast parts. Same raw casting can be used to make many different end results where each has it's own normal part number, which you can find from PET. So it's difficult to know exactly what you have unless you can verify parts critical measurements compared to other known part.

Now that's good information and explains a lot of parts confusion! Thanks. And, actually, the R thing also causes a lot of parts confusion!
