I've gotten a few comments concerning my timing belt tracking problem that seem to point to a problem with some of the Continental timing belts. The problem is with a small section of the belt not being straight, kind of swerving out a little for a short distance. I'm talking about ~1 inch of the belt moving over out of the 6+ feet looking like the belt was molded or cut wrong.
Before I order another belt, how many of you have experienced this? I'm trying to guage about how often it is or if it's a rare occurence and if it is worth the 2+ times cost for the Porsche belt. I didn't think to check for this before I put the belt on and will have to re-do my TB job. I'm checking everything later this week, but want to go ahead and get the belt and cam gears here so it's done in one sitting.
Thanks!

Should the diagnosis indicate a faulty TB, as previously discussed - then there are several name brand timing belts to consider. To have "Porsche" stamped on it as supplied by the dealer @ 2x the cost will not change who makes it: Porsche do not manufacture belts.
Conti, Pirelli, Opti-belt,etc. ... are prime suppliers of TBs made to the 928 spec. with the 928 p/n. Porsche supply the same items after being stamped in 2x$ green ink. I have tried all the above, including OEM: they all work well. The latest design Opti-belt with the dimpled tooth profile has yet to need retensioning in either car, so has become my personal choice.
