If anything, in a frontal collision like that, *maybe* one would see the torque tube move forward, not back. Plus, the shifter is not attached to the engine but the gearbox, which means the gearbox would have had to move, and that is not going to happen.

Can anybody take a guess at what velocity that car would have to hit a stationary object to do that kind of damage? My guess is only a few people like the folks at 928 int'l and a few in front end collisions would know the answer, but it might be interesting as a FYI.

Yes, '85 was first year for Borg Warner syncros. When gearbox type is G28/10 or higher it has these.
