Default ARI/Cardone rebuilt calipers

Anyone have any experience with rebuilt brake calipers from these folks? A certain retailer has them available for a killer price (about $175 each for GTS fronts), plus as an employee I get a tasty discount.

I was looking into a set or front and rears for the all important GTS upgrade for my soon to be track shark. If it goes right, I'll slap a set on the street car too. Heck at this price I can afford it.

Well, since no one seems to know, they are the Autozone brands for rebuilt units. Hipefully this stirs up a little excitment.

Tim,
Is that the rebuild price with your GTS core - or for the complete caliper w/o core?

That's the price minus core charge. Core for the GTS caliper is about $60. There is also something called a "loaded pair" that I am not familiar with. If it means that you get both calipers, then the $200 price is worth it. For more info, check out www.autozone.com

The way I figure it, even at $230 each (with core charge) that's a steal. The price is my side of dead middle between the cost for a used one and a new one ($150-$380 as I recall). Plus the lifetime warranty is extra nice, especially since I may go through a few.

I think that "loaded" means that they include pads and are still sold as each.

That's what I figured since the ARI website describes that package as available.

I'm not totally familiar with the seat in your avatar, but no chance that your screen name is a reference to the venerable "Carolina Lawndart" or AV-8B Harrier II+ is it? If so, Semper Fi brother. If not, keep on rockin' in the free world!

Close, In the AF it's the F-16 that wins that name, though from what I hear the Harrier is very deserving as well. The seat is the ACES II from an F-16.
I grew up in a Marine family, but I strayed and joined the USAF. My dad finally forgave me and said at least it wasn't the Navy (my other choice).

Semper Fi,
Jeff

Yeah, we got a whole other kind of name that includes "dart" for the Squiddies. It's all in good fun. As I understand it, Navy OCS includes a whole series of courses on trading witty insults with your Marine Corps counterparts. Having recently finished Marine OCS, I can say that we offer no such course. However, as an enlisted retread I may not have been required to take it. Thre is an extended session for the newbies, they probably get it there. On the other hand, there's nothing like OJT to teach you what you need to know.

But I digress.

Tim while they may list a price I doubt that they actually have any rebuilt GTS brakes where would they get the CORES....?? and where would you get the cores to qualify for the exchange price ?? Try to order some and see if they are really in stock !

The Autozone website has the "loaded" pair for the front at $269, including core charge. I'll stop by the store and see if they really can be ordered.....

Also, dirt dart is often used to refer to those of us who are too impatient to wait for the aircraft to land to make an exit, while hoping not to to become one of the aforementioned. And, I was in OCS at Ft. Benning many years ago when the terrible tragedy occurred at Quantico , the library burned down....and some of the books hadn't been colored yet...

Beats me Jim...but I work there (largely for the parts discount) and I can vouch for the fact that they can indeed be ordered. Even better, we have a (very) limited stock of Brembo disks sitting in the back of our store. I don't know what they belong to, but the name on the box is synonymous with quality.

As for the cores, didn't 944S2s use the same rears as 928 S4s and the brakes for the GTS are the same as the 993 as I recall. More than this, wouldn't Cardone or ARI be able to get ahold of dealer stocks of core returns and resell them?

There are quite a few other things in the parts system that I was surprised (happily) to find when I started working there. In fact, I spent about an hour or so off the clock just looking up parts and availability. Most of the stuff I found was rebuilt hydraulic and electric parts, along with a few miscelaneous switches and such. The only shocks I could find are the Bilstein HDs, but they were competitvely priced. There were also ball joints available for us who are still aluminum housing impaired.

The nice part was that most everything had a lifetime warranty on it, and shipping was free. The downside is that it all has to be special ordered. Oh well, the car is 20-25 years old, another week or two won't kill it.
