Default When putting on new head gaskets...

When putting on new head gaskets, do I just put them on, then put on the heads and tighten to proper torque?

Or should I put some sort of gasket sealant on, too, like Permatex?

The rebuilt heads are going on tomorrow with the new head gaskets. Things are looking a lot cleaner...and I've gone through a few toothbrushes in the process. Pics coming soon...

Dave.......the WSM indicates 'place cylinder head gasket in position right way round'. The accompanying picture shows the head gasket marked top and an arrow for direction toward front of engine. There is no indication of adding sealant so I would assume none. It also talks to a 3 stage torquing sequence........page 15-118

Thanks guys. I assumed that was the correct answer, but as always I check here, too.

Makes sure each opening sits centered over the cylinders.
Sounds like your moving along!
