put car on lift......oh no!
Ok i finally got around to getting my car on a lift and checking for any wear marks from the clicking i mentioned in another thread. Heres what i found......gas tank has a hole from what appeares the original owner tried fixing, left rear axle boot was torn and grease all over the inside of the rim (maybe cv is no good) and last i checked the clutch according to the shop manuals and well according to them my clutch is gone from what they describe to look for through the peep hole.

Clutch is a bit of a buggar but the others ... no biggie. I'd get a replacement tank, used, and the boot isn't a big deal, CV's can be had. They all sound like normal items for a used 928, except maybe the tank.

Thaddeus the metal floor reinforcement while it connects to the front frame rails is more about reinforcing the floor than being a frame. If it were a frame rail it would have been heavier and less likely to be bent by floor jacks but I agree almost all 928s have that bent . The rocker panels, roof and central tunnel are the "frame" for the center of the car.

Nevertheless I plan to get it pulled out. Perhaps a waste of money, since the car seems 'true', but it bothers me to know about it. I think you understand the syndrome.

heinrich.......cvs were replaced last fall and the nocking or clicking sound had started after a autocross race. As for the clutch i followed the shop manual and it gave direction to tell if your clutch needs to be replaced as what i saw as i looked through the peep hole was a rod with the release lever showing towards the back edge of the hole or on the torque tube side and in the manual it says time to replace. If thats the case the clutch lasted almost 2 years and maybe 5000 miles

The clutch job is not all that bad, it can be done without dropping the Ttube or having to pull the motor. Last fall we had mine out and back in less that 3 maybe 4 hours. That was after removing the exhaust -6 bolts, heatshields -several small screws, and crossmember 4 bolts. You need to pull the starter and clutch slave cylinder from the lower bellhousing (no need to disconnect the wires or hyd hose just move them out of the way). Put a BIG RED note on the clutch pedal saying DO NOT DEPRESS to keep from having the rod pop out of the slave cyl. Don't ask me how I know just do it. Remove the lower bellhousing and your are ready to start. You will need a BFS to make turning the shaft easier so you can remove the bolts on the pinch tube, and the flywheel bolts. The hardest thing was adjusting the daul disc unit when we put it back. Of course I had help...and it helped that it was not the first clutch Jay had removed. Compared to a 944 doing the clutch on a 928 is a walk in the park.
I will be diong mine after I get it out of winter storage....
Good Luck
