thanks for all the feedback. I guess I will try the yokos, they are little more but from what I am hearing they are worth it. I will also look into the (Bridgestone) Fuzions that you were metioning 2tight.

The kumho 712's were the worst tire i have ever had for wear. they did not last more than 2k miles. But they also produced the most amount of smoke i have ever seen come form a tire, the first doughnut i did with these tires scared the hell out of me, there was so much smoke i let off half way through. My car now has a rep. with all young hot rodders in town. Im having alot of fun with the uniroyal tiger paw GTV4. They dont have very good traction so they spin easily and seem to be wearing very well.

I currently have Kumho 712s on my car and I don't like them. They slide around way
too much, especially when cold. I definitely prefer the BF Goodrich KDW tires I have on
my other wheels.

I'm very surprised Ah well ... things change. Btw any tyre that flatspots or lasts only 2k miles, the problem is not with the tyre.

My rule of thumb: If it has a soft(ish) sidewall, it's not suited for the 928, no matter what the other properties are. Oh, unless all you do is slowly roll down a highway in a straight line. Then the comfort may be a plus. Tried Goodyear Eagles once. Soft sidewall. Horrible. Gave them back after a week.

Bridgestone SO2 N3 on 17" stock cup wheels. The tire guys had a bitch of a time mounting them (very stiff sidewall), especially as I told them not to go over 5 bar to "pop" them on (or to buy me a new set of RDK sensors ;-)). On the S4 I had before I had a number of sets of Michelin MXX3 N2 and Bridgestone SO1 N? on 16" wheels. I'd recommend any of these. The SO2s seems to last better, though this may in part be down to other reasons (like having the PSD vs. no LSD on the S4). None of these are inexpensive, but to me they're definitely worth it.

I just put the Yokohama AVS ES100's on Sharky on Saturday... I can't tell you how they are yet because I can't drive the car!

Bridgestone So3'S i cant fault them, last rear set lasted 14K with lots of abuse.

I had S03's on my 91 GT and they were great except for overheating a bit when driving fast for more than 10 minutes (250 km/h +). I had S02's on a 944 and they were great, prefer them to the S03 in the dry.

Anders how did you know, did your tyre temp gauge climb through the roof?

I could feel the car getting loose while driving and the tires felt really warm after the drive when I put my hand on them. Same sensation as during track driving with street tires. I also had some tire pressure warnings when the tire pressure went up because of heat.

Anders,

Sounds like your tire alignment might not be set up right for long high speed runs. I know
the ORR crowd has different specs then the track or street. Some of the cars that come out
with track spec alignments end up blowing out tires...

You guys have got to be kidding. The only tire that has lasted long on my 928's have been Kuhmos. Bridgestone, Yoko, etc and I'm lucky to get 10k out of em. Kuhmos last me 30K and that is with canyon driving. They do slide around a lot when they are cold but I'd rather take the time to put a little heat in them than have some $300 sticky tire I can't really use on the street and that's showing threads at 10K.

The Audi S4 has got to be the toughest car on front tires I've ever owned. After having a left stock tire come apart on me on the 405, I switched it over to Kuhmos as well and got about the same amount of mileage as they do on 928's. I purposely wore them way down and they didn't come apart either. I have no problem staying with or out driving friends in similar cars on pricier tires. For $100 bucks a tire it simply can't be beat.
