*** Detroit Beer Night Tonight ***
It's that time of the month, again.
This Thursday, the local 928 owners will be having our monthly 928 get together here in the Detroit area - others are always welcome.
Location is the same as always @ the Four Green Fields Pub in the strip mall on the SW corner of 13 Mile & Woodward (right next to the Secretary of State's office) in Royal Oak, MI.
Things usually start around 6:30ish and go until whenever.
Remember we have these get togethers on the second Thursday of every month, so come on by.
I will also be cross posting on the other boards too. Hope to see you there.

If anyone is interested in seeing my engine work in progress, I'm only 3 miles from our meeting spot. The field trip will be leaving when I do...probably between 8:30 and 9pm.
I have magic tools in my garage. They leap out at people's heads when they hear remarks about how messy the garage is. They're sensitive.

I'll try to make it out, too. Dave, if you're up for a couple of visitors, I'd like to see the "real thing" too, and find out if I've got any of the guts for such a job myself; I'm a newbie with motor mechanicals, so I may fall out right in the garage! (Like those kids in the intro to "Quincy," around the autopsy table! Remember that one?)

Anyway, I'll lead the caravan down Woodward to my place....I assume a bunch of 928 guys will be able to keep up with my little ole' Saab right?
(Maybe I ought to bring maps )

Am I a fool to want a 928S4 as a daily driver in the Detroit area? Assuming that the preceding isn't just an idiotic question to start with, is the 928 suitable for a child's car seat? I want to drive this car in the winter as well, year round.
Please advise, thanks.
Chris

Well Chris, first of all, welcome to the board. There are/have been a few people in the area that drive their 928s year round. Most don't. Big Dave who will be at Beer night is one that used to until he had a timing belt failure. He can tell you about the driving characteristcs in snow.
As for the kid seat... probaly a no. You may be able to find a booster that'll fit the back seat, but it's not really designed for that. I'll take my kids on short trips without car seats. They love it. But I won't take either on a longer trip (20min+) without a carseat - and that means they sit in the front.
I encourage you to come on by beer night. you can get a lot of questions answered and have a fun night. We're a nice group that just likes to have fun.

I've driven mine for three winters in Detroit. I'd recomend a set of winter tires and wheels. Its about the same as any other rear wheel drive in snow. Wide tires will set you spinning though.
I'll be there Thursday without the 928, but not due to the weather. Its getting a new engine.

Yes, I drove mine year round with an extra set of 16" wheels and snow tires. It handled as well or better than a regular car with all-season tires. Porsche recommends 205/55/16 tires for the snow, which is what I used. You can get a set of extra "dish" or "phone dial" rims pretty cheaply. I just sold mine with the snow tires since my car won't see bad weather after it's been spit-shined.
Yes, I was able to put car seats in my 928. My kids love the car.

I'll bet you've got some modification ideas for yours rolling around in your mind. Having that engine out on on the stand sure makes those mods easy.
