Body kit recommendations: 86S to S4
I'm revisiting this, I searched but did not find "THE answer"..
Where can I get a good kit to revise my 86 to look like an S4?
Answers from folks who actually have a kit installed would be nice...

I don't understand if you wanted an S4 why didn't you buy one? You can get a front &rear bumper cover from an S4 from 928 Intl. But you would have to fill in the holes left buy the S spoiler in the rear change your rear quarter window trim, drill holes in the hatch for an S4 wing or buy a hatch with one already on it. Seems like a lot of trouble and effort to have an S4 looking car with S brakes and performance.

I have done this using factory S4 body parts AND aftermarket body parts...
and I don't recommend it, the cost of all the parts needed to do it properly is pretty high. So high that you could sell your 928 and by a nice S4 for a lot less than the conversion.
Using factory parts will require "severe mods" to the rear of your 928 (behind the bumper cover) and the aftermarket fiberglass versions I have seen are not really to the quality level that your 928 deserves. (unless you find a fiberglass "artist" to rework the parts BIG $$$$$) Even then making the S4 front spoiler work with these kits is tricky at best.
The proper lighting/wiring alone will be over $1000. The S4 front spoiler and needed hardware could be as high as $600-700. We haven't even started on costs of bumper covers, bumper bars, hardware, S4 lower rocker panels, hatch window trim, rear wing, etc,etc...
Of course it you buy a totaled S4 for $1500 on EBAY then you are in better shape, but still a lot of work.
On top of that, I really like the look of the "S" cars.. to be honest I like both types equally (hence my ownership of 85 S and 90GT). My point is save your money for something better.
However, if you really want to do it I have many tips and tricks to make it easier to get the exact factory S4 look on your 86 .....call me and we can discuss it. Be warned, I will still try to talk you out of it, but will respect your wishes :-)
I also helped Pat's body guy (who is great) via the phone a lot on his conversion, but that was not a true S4 front that required installing the S4 front spoiler etc and did not include S4 Rocker panels and the rear which is the hardest part IMHO.....

I have a car whose mechanicals I am increasingly confident in... and whose performance I am -nearly- satisfied with . Obviously if this is way cost-prhibitive it won't happen. I'm not especially keen on changing the rear. But I love the snout on the later cars, it's the one thing I'm regretting about the car I have...

I may call you about what it would take to just change the 'snout' on my car... let me sleep on this a little more...
