Default Canadian Key Cutter

This is a cross post from the Cdn regional Rennlist forum.

Anyone know of a place that can cut an ignition key for a 928 in the Toronto or Ottawa area? Any other regions of Canada? I hear rumours that several places have the adapter to do this, but have no names or contact info.

I only have one key and need to make a plan to get it copied. Preferrence is to have this done in Canada and in person as part of a business trip before the driving season starts.

I have sources for this in the US, but would prefer exhausting Cdn alternatives first. What do the rest of you Canadians do for extra keys?

Regards,

SteveCo,
There is a locksmith in Vancouver who cuts them. Don't recall the name off hand, but if you need it it, I'll find it.

Glenn;
I don't have plans to visit the west coast anytime soon, but things change all the time. I have a new client in Vancouver and may get a trip sooner than I think. I might consider mailing my key out that way also. I'd feel more comfortable about doing this within Canada and avoiding the cross border hassles (customs, shippers, etc).

If you could find the name and contact info, I would appreciate it.

Regards,

how about the guy in Australia who cuts the keys from a picture of yours? I remember reading about that here and from what I understand, they work perfect and you don't have to ship your key off...

Send a pm to ROG100. He successfully used a service in Australia that will make a key copy from a photograph of your key for $35. Fast turn around. You don't have to part with your only key. Search eBay for "Porsche 928 key cut". When I posted a link, it was quickly deleted by the moderator (no free advertising).

Great and fast service about $35.
Look on eBay he has a current auction with a Buy it Now.

Wow, now that's the global economy for you. Key cut in Australia for a Canadian client with a German car imported in the US and then imported into Canada!

I'll have to look into this one...sound ideal to me. Thanks for the tip!

I am expecting two keys from keys4classics, I'll let you know how well they work when they arrive.

These guys have a key cutter that does a good job. IIRC it was $50.00 for 2 keys.

http://www.weissach.com/ ask for Andrew in the Parts Department.

It's in Vancouver, BC. I sent then my key by courier... they sent me 3 back, the same way.

I just got my keys from Down Under, they did a great job. Both work perfectly.

keys4classics.com

I emailed several pictures of my keys taken in sunlight, macro setting, no flash. I think the files were about 256k each. For the 928 make sure you get 45 degree shots from both sides. He can take a megabyte file in email no problem but my pics were good at that size (I cropped them.)

The keys are made on Silca blanks. $61.95 for two ($40-ish for one.) Money well spent considering the Dusseldorf fiasco :-)

Great news. I've sent some pics to him for review. Unfortunately, I did not see the instructions and used a flash. Pics seem OK to me, but we will see. I did the 45deg shots you mentioned. To my mind these give the best view to work with, but what do I know!

The flash is OK if it does not reflect straight back to the CCD. I could never get it to work for me.
If your keys look good in the pictures you are probably good.

I'll be sending them my photos too. Did them before, but not the right angles. They do wheel lock keys too from a photo or the key code. $81 total for me (2 long keys w/ alarm + 2 wheel lock keys delivered). They guarantee the keys will work or money back. Less than the price of one from the dealer....that is if it worked when it got here from Germany.
