A/T leather shift boot install
I purchased the below shift boot and Momo ****. I'm having trouble installing the shift boot. I've loosened the center console but am not sure what else to take off and don't want to break anything. If you've already installed this please give me some tips.

I put the exact same set up in my 87 auto. I love it. I will add it to my 88 as well. It looks a lot better than the "T" shifter and stock plate IMO.
What problem are you having exactly? I just pulled out the old plate and the new one with the leather just snapped right in place.

Am I the only one who shivers when seeing these MOMO ***** in the 928? They seem so out of place in our cars - too "Techno" and too "cold" for the 928 interior... Oh well, I guess I'm biased.

Danton, I replied to your PM about the removal of the shift plate and install of the boot. Let me know if it doesn't help. I might be able to take pic of the back of the plate if I can find it. Like I said in the PM, once you get it out you'll realize that its pretty simple. Of course, Dave Roberts had to walk me through it the first time...
Borys, I got mine from 928 Specialists. I think the price was around $40 to $50. The leather boot looks good with a Jager shifter. You should only get it if you have the gear selector display on the dash though.

>Does this full boot delete the shifter position indicator and the associated illumination?
Yep, just as illustrated in photo of first post in this thread.
As stated on the website, NOT recommended for 928s without indicators in the Instrument Cluster.

David, thanks for the instructions link. Now I see what's going on in there. Hopefully now I shouldn't have any problems. As for the Momo **** not looking good in the car, you may be right. I won't know till I try it. My car is silver w/ dark blue interior. It also has light gray mats. So the shift **** with the dark blue boot might look ok. If not I'll change it. I do know one thing, the faux wood reeeeeally doesn't go with these cars. What sports car comes with wood inserts? AFAIK it's either black, carbon fiber or silver. Now if we're talking about a Cayenne then that's a different story....

Hi Danton,
Glad the link helped.

Don't pay any attention to the peel and stick "Wooders", their just reliving the old beach days of dreaming about owning a "Woody" :-)
Seriously, every one has their own taste, if they didn't all of the 928s would look a like and that would be pretty boring. However I am with you, a modern sports car should have leather, aluminum, and/or Carbon Fiber. I lived the days of Sports cars that had real Wood dashboards and I am still trying to get the stains out of my hands from refinishing the solid 5/8" thick REAL Burled Walnut Dashboard panel in my old Sunbeam Tiger back in high school...

>FYI - my '87 does not have illumination at at the shift ****.
Yep, eliminated starting in 85 when the indicator was added to the Instrument Cluster.
I put together a Kit that adds the Illumination back for 85-95 many years ago. Cost is $19.95 and easy to do.

I think the MOMO ***** look just as good as anything Jager is selling. I've got the same ****, but with black trim, and it matches my steering wheel.
To each his/her own.
