Default About to buy a 928 GTS -95 low milage

Hello!

I have owned 944/968 before but now i have foud a 40kmiles 928 GTS -95 manual gearbox!
What shall I check of before i buy a GTS -95 low milage?
Offcourse timing belt/waterpump/General contition and Service history.
I have not seen it yet but it is in a very good contition with all services done.

Is there a plastic pad that has to be changed that the 32 valve chain runns on like the 944S/S2?
Is there any type faults on these late 928?
Is the 928 GTS more comfortable and more quiet in the cokpit than the 944?
The 944 has i loud tire roar that i dont like.

Any comments?
What shall I Pay for it?

Thanks
Dave

I dont know about there, but here in the states that car is EXTREMELY rare! I would guess a car like that here in good condition could go for 60k. There is a guy here that has a 93 & 94 At that he is asking in that price range. 928 is a quiet ride and very comfortable. Tire noise isnt an issue on my car but every tire is different. You will enjoy that car if you get it. only other thing to look at would be torque tube/flex plate issue. Good luck

The last car with similar spec I heard of was a manual '95 GTS, polar silver, delivered new in september 1995 and sold for a mere €25k, AFAI can remember. That was 2 years ago and since then prices seem to have increased for late GTS, so I would risk a guess at around €30-35k for this one.

Check your bank account!

Motor mounts
Brakes
Shocks
Tranny
Paint condition

It's a comfortable ride in the sense of being firm but supple. As opposed to being either hard and harsh on the one hand, or wallowy and billowy on the other. Having also owned two 951's, I'd say the ride will be similar, but a little more comfortable due to the extra weight. In my experience, tire noise is more a function of the tires than of our cars.

Around here, I'd say your car would cost somewhere between $45K if you got a real good deal, up to $60K if you paid what a dealer asked.

What is the torque tube/flex plate issue? Dont know what it is and what happens with it?

What about the motormounts, is it like the 944, it vibrates during idle?

Shocks already?

What can happen to the tranny at this milage?

Thanks
Dave

" What is the torque tube/flex plate issue?"
Only affects auto's, not manual's

"What about the motormounts, is it like the 944, it vibrates during idle?"
all through rev. range especially at 3,100rpm, although most drivers would not notice that they need doing

should not be shocks at this age
Or any g/box probs.

as a guide, recent UK sales
'92 auto 40,000miles £13,000
'92 manual 50,000 miles £18,000
actual sold prices, not asking price (big difference)

PS. is it RHD & white, if so it sold last summer for £10,500 at auction & then later for £12,000

PS. get somebody who knows 928's (NOT somebody who knows Porsches, not the same thing) to have a look at the car for you

Where in Europe are you located? There are quite a lot of europeans on Rennlist and I am sure that someone can recommend a shop for a PPI or in other ways help a fellow Rennlister.

Has anyone heard of engine stalling before?

I talked to the owner and he told me the only thing that isnt perfect is that sometimes(specially when engine is not totally warm and decreasing speed after a short trip on highway) it stalls. It starts to lose powermore and more and it almost stops. If just shut the engine down and start it directly it all goes away. It seems to be a fuel/computer thing....
Two Porsche shops have looked in to it without finding anything.

What do you think?
Is it heard of before?

Thanks¨
Dave

Randy, if you mean thrust bearing failure, he's looking at a manual not an auto. Sounds more like a fuel problem. Get a PPI.

As you may have noticed, two different Porsche workshops has done inspection about this problem without findinng any faults. So the problem is not constant, it comes just once in a while.

Randy has a point. Have crank endplay inspected urgently. Anything else (other than severe crash damage) is likely easily corrected.
