Default "Chewy" is getting a repaint... to mod or not to mod, need advice.

Well, I'm getting ready for Chewy to get paint done. I pretty well set on keeping it the original color, Anthracite Gray Metallic, as it's a Mercedes colour which I like, and is rather unique on a Porsche.

I'm considering making extensive body mods to my 928, which consist of some choice fibreglass pieces by Jacquemond . I'm considering the front section, front spoiler/splitter, side skirts/sills, and roof spoiler from the Medium Aerodyne group.
Other plans include deleting the rub strips, the rear 'S" spoiler, and rear wiper.
Shaving the door locks. Fitting GTS style aero mirrors.

So what I will have is a custom car suited to my tastes.

But what I have now is a rare Euro car with essentially no Fedralization done to it. Which make it rather unique in the US as it is. Which leads to my quandry...
Up to this point, all mods I have made to my car are reversible. If someone wanted to take this car back to stock, it is doable. I have all the stock parts.

It would be okay to just do a repaint and call it good, but I don't know if I would be satisfied. For instance, I really don't like the 'S' style rear spoiler. I'm not all that pleased w/ the front spoiler either. They don't feel integrated and look like an afterthought.
So if I go through all the work involved in a good repaint, it would be silly to keep them installed knowing the don't suite me.

Let me also note what I know is certain and understood.
1. The body mods will double the cost of the repaint.
2. I will never get this money back out of the car if I ever sell it. I will never get the money for a stock, well done repaint either.
3. I plan on keeping Chewy for a long time, but one never can tell.

So here is where I ask what would you do? Stock or Mod? All opinions are welcome and appreciated.

Also, If you have any comments on the Jacquemond parts I'm considering, I would like to read them.

Here's my car in current form... and then a Jacquemond example

Keep the body and repaint stock and add a supercharger.

Well since he has a high compression S2 engine, a supercharger really isn't gonna happen with out some engine work. Do the jacq kit and be happy!! It is a nice kit and chewy will thank you for it.

What do you plan on using for a spoiler: none, 87+ Porsche, GTR/S5, 928 Spec, Jacquemond?

If you're concerned about keeping it original, make it look like it could be factory. Delete the rub strips, delete the rear wiper, update the spoiler, Jacquemond M-style front (uses Porsche not ricer lights), side skirts, and forget the roof spoiler.

That's the first Jacquemond kit that looks fairly good. Personally I'd just update to a late model rear spoiler, update the side mirrors to the late model mirrors and call it a day. You end up with a fresh, stock looking car with a shiny new paint job. I'd also replace the side molding/bumper with a new one. I can't see getting an expensive repaint and then having someone in a parking lot ding it with a door. I actually like the look of the side moldings.

I was considering not having any spoiler on the rear. I had an 80 US, sans rear spoiler and rear wiper and the look was really clean. The *** end was more prominent and focussing.
I've never been terribly fond of the later style spoiler either. Though I like Mark Kiborts with the X" risers.
I'm considering leaving my options completely open on the rear of the car. Later on a spoiler or updated rear bumper cover could be added. I will change the antennea to the roof mounted style though.
The main issue I have with the Jacquemond roof spoiler is that it is purely asthetic. But is has a very nice 3rd brake light as it's only function. I'm not sold on it. I guess it would also function to block some of the sun coming into the rear hatch.

Keep it simple. I second the rub strips delete and aero mirrors addition. Personally, I have never cared for the pre-S4s with GTS wings. They just never look right from the rear as if there is something missing between the stock taillights. Again, IMO. The best money I spent on my ex-86.5 were the '89 GT coilovers and OTT drop links I bought from DR. They totally changed the personality of the car. So, I'd upgrade the suspension and the brakes to match the power of the car.

I agree with you. The is something about the shape of each together that doesn't match.

I also agree that the coilover and droplink upgrade is well worth it. I have that project on the shelf, literally. I'm quite happy with my sport suspension for now, but I want the better brakes, and the droplinks for a flatter ride.
I have all the parts to do the upgrade, I just need to paint the calipers, buy droplinks, install, align, and I ready to go...

So, I've been tossing up the idea of waiting until next year to do the paint job, and doing the brakes/supsension job this winter.

My limitations with time right now has suspended my decision one way or the other, so all I can do is homework.

Have you gotten any quotes on the paint cost? Just curious since mine will get one sometime down the line.

This one has to look --really-- interesting from the inside. Rear quarter visibility cut in half at best. Might look cool from the outside but... As a former Lotus Europa Series One owner, former Mangusta owner, etc., losing that rear corner view makes the car tough to drive in any traffic. The piece hs a 'drop-in' look that would need a lot of work to get looking like a factory piece.

The good side is that, with that big hole in the rear like that, you don't need to make any decision on a vortex-generating rear wing-- there's no laminar flow to break up across the tail!

I'm of the keep-it-stock-looking camp. I'm past the loud colors, loud exhaust, make-a-loud-statement cars. I'm in more of a 'slide by the supervision' mode these days. So the rub strip delete would be OK, the aero mirrors would be cool. That Jacq nose looks OK. The sides with the vent holes... A new paint job will do plenty for the car if it's done right. Finding a competent body shop to do fiberglass stuff just right may or may not be a challenge where you are. I'm sure these are things you are considering.

Default update and modify,

thats my opinion. my choice when doing this one year ago was to both change the colour and update the front end, as well as grafting on the GTS arches and mirrors. the rub strip delete is very gratifying visualy, as is deleting the 'S' spoiler and wiper - i agree this gives the car a nicer profile.

Nick, did you install the second rear fog light?

Thank you everyone for all the feedback thus far. The majority seems to be in the "stock w/minor updates" camp.
I will probably add into this category the 'S' rear spoiler & rear wiper delete, and roof mounted antennea install.

I want to add this is was my first day off since the first of the year. I think I just slept for 12 hours! Much needed.

Thanks again everyone!

While I do like the look of the jacquemond parts you selected, I think your car is unique and would be very beautiful with just a rub strip delete and GTS mirrors. I'd leave it stock otherwise, including the paint color.
