As you you already stated Jim you are not going to get your money out of this no matter which paint route you go, one thing with fiberglass parts, you hit something even at relatively low speeds and thats the end of them.

The fiberglass parts are going to need plenty of prep to fit but if you repaint your old bumpers they will need lots of prep also, just not to fit.

In the end you should do whatever you want, its your car, live your dream.

A good paint job is expensive, no way around that unless you own a body shop and can eat the costs, do it right and it will look a million $$.

Let us know which option you choose and take plenty of pictures !

Hello Jim.
Even though You have a uniqe car right now, Your car will be even more uniqe if You decide to get the Jacquemond kit.
The med. Aeorodyne looks great and adds a touch of more modern lines to Your car and still maintains the classic look of the 928. As You yourself stated...the money is gone no matter what. Now it is just a matter of what the project is worth to You.
Another option is that of the South Africans are putting together these days. Check out the " Fat Bully" tread. Pierre and Gavin is on to something.
I have just recently been in touch with Olivier myself about the same kit as You, including the rear section and fender flares. I am also somewhat reluctant due to the price for one thing, all the "other" costs involved and last but not least, the cutting up of a perfectly good car.
I wish You good luck no matter what You decide....myself? cannot get the modifications out of my head.

Hi there, we had our first 928 gathering in Utah and there was a 85 "Euro" Gamballa. It looked killer. It needed freshening up but it was killer, he put GT2 wheels on it and 993 TT brakes. it is going to be a monster when he is finished. The point I'm trying to make is the euro 928 is probably the most moded 928's out there. Go wild do what YOU like with the car. Personally if I was restoring my 83 I would keep the stock look but they look so damn good moded also. If you do not like the S2 look of our cars then I would trick that BI_CH out. That is an awsome looking kit. Good luck

Thanks again for all the input. I think I'm going to keep it somewhat simple. My pocketbook will thank me, I'm sure.
So here is what I'm going to do:
1: Rub strip delete
2: Roof antennea install
3: Aero mirror install
4: 'S' rear spoiler delete
5: Rear wiper delete
6: Shave door locks (maybe)
7: Paint the inner section of the my 3-piece wheels to match the body colour. I still have to check on this because I'm not sure if I can reuse the existing fasteners. If not, it could get expensive. Chuck Z, what was your experience?

I will keep the original colour, Anthracite Gray Metallic. Actually, this colour seems to still be popular as I have seem it used on cars at SEMA (it may have been another Vegas show). And there were many slight variations of it at the Detroit International Auto Expo.

Also, I thought about paint the 'S' front spoiler to match the body color, but I'm not sure how well it will hold up considering the abuse the spoiler recieves...

So I'm looking at some tasteful updates to my Euro without losing it's essence.

Now if I could just pull some time out of my you know where, I could get this started.

Jim,

I reused the existing fasteners on my RH 3 pc. wheels with no issues to date. I spoke with Mark Anderson who races on wheels he has taken apart and reused the fasteners and he has not had any issues. I also spoke to engineers at American Racing Products who concluded based on the fact that my wheels had not been apart before, the age of my wheels, the size of the fasteners and how I use them reusing the fasteners should be fine.

Of course wheel manufacturers (RH specifically) will tell you absolutely not to reuse them for liability reasons and/or so they can charge you $250/wheel (again RH - what a joke and they are jerks about it!!!!!!) to take them apart and put them back together. Not a difficult job at all, it took me about 1/2 hour to put each wheel back together.

For what its worth (and its worth exactly what you are paying for it), IMHO, I would not permanently remove anything that originally came on the car from Porsche. I would not add anything that is not easily reversible back to stock. Also, I wouldn't paint anything that wasn't originally painted. Wheels are of course another story. But that's just me.

Jim, I agree with your choices, but I think the paint matched GTS or black S4/GT wings look nice on the S cars as long as the factory rear spoiler is removed, JM .928

I don't know much about deleting door handles/locks; when you shave door locks, where do you unlock the car manually?

Chuck,
Thank for the info and suggestions. I talked with my wheel manufacturer as well and agreed it is okay to reuse the fasteners. The torques spec is 20ft/lbs per, and the is not enough to stress the fastener. Also, there are 42 per wheel so the loads are well displaced.
He also mention not to use silicone as a sealer during reassembly. He recommended a Dow DG3 (I can't remember the exact name) sealer.

Curtis,
I figure if I remove the 'S' rear spoiler, that will leave my options open for a future spoiler. Though I'm still up in the air on removing the 'S' spoiler.

Mark,
What Chris wrote.... the hatch will remain the fail safe. The door lock shave is up in the air as well. I'm not really keen on tapping into the electrical system on my 928. I'm fortunate to have a 928 where the PO did not hack up wires and such. Though the remote elec. door lock system is simple, I believe I would have to splice into a harness. I don't think I want to do that.
