Default CV joints: replace in same/opposite direction?

hi, my driveshafts are out, should I alternate their location or not?

I guess one could argue either way:

-Let it rotate the other way, it will even out the wear.
-It is broken in, replace at the same location.

Same direction will help with a long life since the shafts and internals have always experienced stress in one direction.

Turn them around to even out the wear. They don't care which way they were stressed.

In my opinion running the CV backwards ...probably would make the CV last longer ..running the axles backwards theoretically would make them more likely to break. BUT 928 axles never break. Either way the CVs usually only wear out when the boots split and the grease spins out/dirt gets in.

A few guys here have had to replace theirs at 125k mls, I don't know if the boot is broken, is this normal? One of my cars has done this milage, I'm wondering how much left it has?

Inspect the boots for cracks, especially in the grooves of the boot. Squeeze the boots a little from the sides to make the grooves expand and expose any cracks. At the age of the car you might want to just replace them anyway. It takes some time to replace the boots since you have to take the axles off, but $80 in boot kits sure beats $500 to replace the axles.

You don't need to take the axles 'off' to replace boots. Both can be replaced from the transaxle side.

If you want to change the wear surface inside the CV joints, then you need to swap sides with the axles. If you swap ends on one side, they're turning the opposite direction, but the wear surfaces, and twist on the shaft, are the same.

I swapped my axles 3 years ago or approx 3,000 miles. No problems. I did it to increase the life of the joints. I did uses syn axle grease, Redline was the brand.
