Gotta renew my yearly Utah registration this month. Got me to wondering what kind of differences you'd find in different states. Or even in other countries for that matter.

In Utah, there is no longer a property tax calculated as a percentage of your car's value. There is a uniform fee based on age of the vehicle. For my '93 GTS, it's a whole $10 (ten) U.S. dollars.

There is also $1.00 "Air Pollution Control Fee" and a $25.50 "Registration Fee."

Total fees for registering my car: $36.50

However, we are required to get a state safety and emissions inspection every other year on newer cars - every year on older cars. (Don't remember what year is the cutoff, but my '93 has to have it every year.) My safety and emissions inspection cost me $39.50

So grand total for registering the GTS: $76.00

 

Tennessee depends upon which county you register the car in. I live in Williamson County and the rates are like this:

Vehicle Polution Inspection at State Inspection Station = $10
State License Plate Fee = $30 ~ 60 depending upon type of plate
County Wheel Tax $30 ~ 60 depending upon county

My total for Kryptonite is $70

Do you have any inspection/emission requirements that add to the total cost, even though they may not be actual fees, technically speaking?

 

About 60 bucks here in Ft Worth TX, and another $35 for the state inspection (emissions/safety). No property taxes on motor vehicles....... yet........

 

$96 for a two year registration fee in Alaska.
