Question 1-2 shift point and...

I've checked the archives, WSM, and owners manual and can't find a reason... My transmission, which works great in all other ways, will not go past 4500 rpm in 1st. From a stop, floor it in D, 4500 and a shift to 2; stop, pull it back to 2, floor it, 4500 and a shift to 2. All other gears will hold steady to 6000 (of course, being lawabiding, I wouldn't know about the 3-4 shift ) I adjusted the shift linkage to no avail.

That big snake on the front of the chevy is still there, but it does not turn cams that threaten to push valves through pistons on every revolution.......Something gets up in that engine bay looking for a a crinelin press, it is gonna make for a noisy ironing job.....

Uhhhhh, maybe I didn't speli crinelin right..........So lemme try this....once I started my chevy tahoe and a rat who had taken up residence on the warm engine block for the night, lost his head....took the serpintine belt off in the process......damage to the rat was er....extensive, the chevy was just fine......

BTW re your tranny.....how is your fluid level?

The fluid level is fine, it's been doing this since I got it last Feb., and I've changed fluid and filter with no change...

And I figured the answer about belt covers would be that it was a poor idea, just thought they looked good off. Sort of like leathers on a bike, jeans look cooler, but cool don't count when you need the protection....

I'd guess it also doesn't have aluminum sprockets either. I wonder how much sprocket wear is accelerated by the dirt and grit that gets between the the sprockets and the belt as it's run.

I dunno, but given all the stuff going on in my engine bay, the last thing I am gonna do is "go commando" on the family jewels........

When we were kids we took the chain guard off the bicycle too.....Kinda neat how the sproket would punch those little holes in the cuff of your pants while the chain made an indelible tatto at the same time.....followed up by you being ripped off the bike while at the same time being thrown over the handle bars as the rear wheel locked up.......Yep that was cool alright...........

Now where the hell did I put that goddam chain guard.....................

Guess the covers will stay on, but I still need to sort out the transmission. I read somewhere right after I got the car that it was supposed to do the 1-2 shift early to save the drive train, but I think that came from one of the other boards, and doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

my auto seems to short shift 1-2 as well, not quite as much as yours - it makes it to 5400 and sometimes a bit more.

Gee, folks, are you going to leave me not able to experience the full enjoyment of my shark?
