Default New Personal Record!

...for most money spent on one single shop bill!

But hey! It was wurf it!

Got the car back from Motorsport today after:

1. Complete new Sliverknit Cashmere carpet set installed - with intoxicating glue fumes to prove it! (hic!)
2. Torque tube R&R
3. Tranny R&R and moderate rebuild - shifts sweeeeet now! When you put it in reverse, you don't have to go, "one mississippi, two mississippi," etc.
5. All new fuses. All relays checked.
6. Rear hatch adjusted - no more rattles. And you don't have to slam it closed. Just let it gently drop and it latches every time. (Dave was pretty proud of this! Had to demo it for me, oh, 4-5 times!) Remote hatch release also working like a charm.
7. Oil change
8. Vacuum system gone through
9. Front seats cleaned.
10. Friendly banter with Dave and Garrity (who are very patient with a doc who ain't a wrench) - free of charge!

That's what my car needs really badly!

Did they replace any parts, or just adjust it? Do you know what they adjusted - lock mechanism, bumpers, guides, or all of the above?

Gosh, that is one thing that drives me nuts, but I can't sem to figure out how to fix it.

I do have a crack in the upper hatch lock piece, and blame this one - is that really the root cause for the rattles?

Y'know, I'm not sure exactly what Dave did. I think he did some adjusting and also replaced some part of the latch/lock mechanism. I used to have to adjust the little round rubber stops on the hatch - turned all the way out on one side and almost all the way in on the other side - and then put some big flat rubber washers on the bottom corners... and it would still chatter over a bumpy road.

No chatter anymore.

PM "ketchmi" and ask him the details.

(BTW, some folks may not be aware that you can indeed adjust those round rubber stoppers on the corners of the hatch itself - just twist them in/out. They're threaded. At least mine are.)

TomM and I met a guy at a California 928 gathering I attended in my young and foolish days, who had just dropped 50k on a stoker and suspension and a few other upgrades to his '85. According to him.

bigs,

you've seen my car in there for so long now. Don't you think Garrity and Dave are gonna stick it to me even harder?!?

Yes, as a matter of fact I do!

But then I'm not done restoring this sweetheart to showroom condition either! So you may eclipse my record briefly, but watch your back!

And for the rest of you guys... Sheesh!!! I'm not even in those ballparks. Guess I'm a novice after all.

Since I have 4 Porsches, all older than 1988, they won't insure me. unless I buy a 2000 or newer car as a daily driver. No thanks.

Hey folding wing I saw your car over the weekend and it is coming together nicely. If the wheels and brakes are missing I didnt have anything to do with it. As for Mr. Bigs the godfather of the 928 club I saw you interior when it was about half way done, very very nice. The 928 club is coming very soon so buck up spanky. There is a tentative date on the 29th for a meet and greet, you people should be hearing from us very soon.

Good one, Heinrich!

As I started this thread, I thought to myself, "There's gonna be a whole bunch of great 928 wrenches on this forum who will sigh, roll their eyes, and think to themselves, 'Jeez bigs! Spending a bundle on work you coulda shoulda done yourself ain't something to brag about! Not right out in public! Have you no shame?'"

But then, I figure good mechanics gotta make a living too!

And, Andy...
