Baby you can drive my car....
She's got a ticket to ride...

Bill, there are too many metaphors to choose from. I've met her, and can say without a doubt that I'd let her throttle me any day. Er, make that, set my cruise control. I mean, slide my rear end. Man, I better get back to work before I embarrass myself.

Well, the fuel pump relay I put in was tested to be dead. So they ordered another, and still the pump isn't running. So I'm wondering where to go from here. They are going to check to see if there is a spark. But in the meantime, why would the fuel pump relay be blowing? Now they are getting ready to pull the fuel pump, and I've told them that it's pretty easy to destroy, if not really careful. So we're all not sure what to do next. Not even sure what the problem(s) are. Any ideas? I had her plug the horn relay in the fuel pump spot, and she said she couldn't hear the fuel pump. So that might be the place to start. Perhaps put 12 volts across the pump motor, and see if it really runs or not?...

OK Gregg, you're a great guy and all, but I think I speak for everyone when I say we'd all rather have Angela get on here and talk to us directly. Then I'm sure there'd be some responses.

Oh, and before you invite her, you might want to delete that post about her throttle and your rear end.

A fuel pump that is jammed stopped by debris (BTDT) will pull a few amps more than spec, or if there is some sort of high resistance connection along the way. Try bridging the relay socket and measure the current - mine ran 6-7A IIRC when I tested it (single outside pump).

Greg the relay they ordered was a headlight relay......the horn relay and fuel pump relay are NOT the same for the 79 . The fuse panel for the 79 is not at all like your 89 ...........the fuel pump relay on the 79 is on the bottom row third to last on the right # 928 615 113 01 . Plus the 79 has no fuel injection computer which is what T. was talking about. I told her that I thought it was HIGHLY unlikely that the relay they ordered was going to help but was frankly overwhelmed by the amount of misinformation they were trying to process.

Well, it started and ran for a few minutes. Angela said that the owners manual shows the windshield wiper relay and the fuel pump relay in the same position. So there may be an error in the literature that has compounded the problem. I can only take her word for it.
Jim, it appears that she ended up with the windshield wiper relay. It has part number 928 615 101 00 on it.
Even though it's like the blind leading the blind, it's great to get a helping hand from you all in the forum.

Yes the 928 615 101 00 is exactly what was ordered and sent. We will be sending the fuel pump relay 928 615 113 01 as soon as payment arrangements have been made.
