Shifting with no clutch

I heard that a 928 owner lost his clutch slave cylinder and trailered his car home. This wasn't really necessary was it? I've had Chevies lose a clutch and was able to push start it in 2nd gear and shift into the other gears when the revs were right. It's enough to get you home unless you have to make a lot of dead stops...then it becomes a hassle. Hollywood stops work though.
Surely this could be done on the 928 also. Has anyone tried it?

I have found the 5 speed quite willing to be shifted without the clutch. I am not sure I would want to subject my car to first gear jump starts, but it could be done.
Once several years ago a I was giving a relative a ride in the car and told him that the tranny was so smooth you didn't need to use the clutch to shift. He was a sophisticated car enthusiast and well off enough to be driving a high end Mercedes so his reaction was: "really?, show me". I was in fourth gear on some back roads and I went down the grears to first and back up to fourth. Never a sound out of the tranny. He was amased.
I was too....secretly thanking my luck that I got the engine speed right each time so that I avoided embarassing myself and my shark because of my big mouth. In truth, once the right engine speed was found, the shifter slipped right into the gear I was attempting.....I was amased.
I haven't been tempted to pull that stunt again.....

About 15 years ago I was leaving Trumbill, Ct to come home to the Phila. suburbs in my 84 928S 5 sp. It was around this time of the year and extremely cold. I went to start the car and the clutch pedal buried into the floor. Fortunately it was early, about 8 o'clock on a Sunday morning. I said what the hell and proceeded to drive home without a clutch. I had 2 concerns first being 95S around NYC and second an intersection with a traffic light after I got off the PA turnpike. I got lucky. Traffic thru NYC was light and I didn't have any stop and go issues, and when I got off the PA turnpike I was able to time the light and not have to stop at the light I was concerned about. I think I will always remember this exciting somewhat frazzling adventure.

Have done it in my old 928 just to do it. Had to drive my 911 home from work one day in stop and go traffic after the cable broke. Doable but pain at the lights. Have to coast to a stop in neutral and kill the engine put her in first and start it in gear if I absolutely had to stop. In either car it is really easy if you take it to redline and shift. Otherwise have to match revs more closely.

Get the engine speeds right and it changes OK. When you need to stop just slap the gear into neutral.
Switch off the motor, put it in second gear and just turn the key when it is time to leave.
