S4 vs. early 32v plug wire fit
Are the oem Behru plug wire sets interchangable between the early 32v (288hp) engines and the S4 (320hp) - or vice versa?
The Dist. caps and plug ends are the same, the plug locations appear to be the same, but the replacement wire sets are listed as two different numbers ( 928 602 061 [or 062]). Are the lengths (or something else, like coil wires?) different enough to prevent interchangability either way?

The S4 plug wires will work on 85/6' engines as the crossover wires are a bit longer, have done many sets. The 85/6' run the wires above the water pump whereas the S4's run them below, in front of the water pump. You also need to keep in mind the coil changes from 89' and up which require different coil wires. I have never tried to put 85/6' wires on an S4, do not think I could stretch the wires out enough to reach.

Dave,
Did you ever manage to get plug wires rebuilt (remember from an archive search I did). I am wondering if anyone has found the screw ends (male) that attach to the end of the wire on the OEM setup. If so, then any wire of similar diameter can be used and many options are available.

Not yet...but then again, I haven't been looking either. I figured I can put that search off until I need the new wires.
