Question Visiting Germany

Hi Group, I'll be over in the Baumholder area of Germany, in mid-February. Flying into Frankfurt then over to B-Hole. Let me know if I can try to help you out with something within reason. I don't think I could carry a new console back on the plane so anything bigger than a loaf of bread is probably out.

Cheers,

Dave

I don't know if , technically, Stuttgarter Hoffbrau could be Porsche related.
However, the 928 and the Brew are products of ( "bigger than") Stuttgart.
Maybe a bottle of a good Italian 'yeller'.
If you pass that way a few flicks of Nellingen/Esslingen for Nicole would be nice.
Don't forget to have some wurst, some curry wurst, and a mongo Tellerschnitzel for me.
Sigh ...
Enjoy.

Baumholder is not very far from the Nurburgring...

At the current exchange rate of about $1.40 to 1 Euro you might find EVERYTHING extremely expensive!

Have fun, though!

John: You would not recognize the area anymore. Nellingen Barracks is completely gone - there is a whole new part of town there... My brother bought a condo in that area last year. I'll probably go visit this coming summer.

Yes it has changed. The last time I lived in Germany was 1980-1984 (Bad Kreuznach, Heidelberg and Berlin-Zehlendorf). Our oldest son is in B-Hole for a few months while his unit (the 40th Engineers) is reconstituted for return to Iraq. They were there 16 months and had to return to fix all the stuff that broke. He is taking some leave and we will do some touring.. The Tellerschnitzel will come in second to a Zigeuner mit fritz ( that is a German joke .... Zigeunerschnitzel is a type of veal cutlet called a "Gypsy Cutlet" because of the various field vegetables served over it. Pomfrits, of course, are french fries. Well, you see, Fritz is a popular German man's name, and so, you have Fritz and some Gypsy, who are considered by the Germans to be highly over sexed and promiscuous.

Oh Kay ..... the Curry wurst .... yep, will do. The Stuttgarter Hoffbrau is OK, but I am thinking an Idar Obersteiner Pils ... the little Idar Oberstein brewery is like so many of the village breweries in Germany ... it feels so Southern US when you walk in ... sort of like "Well! Bless Your Tired Old Heart! Sit right down here and have something to drink!" Very family-like and friendly. Some friends of mine and I were up in the Idar during a Ham Radio field trip (I was DA1BB) and we ended up staying two days, most of it in the brewery at the Staamtisch.

I'll keep you all posted ...

Cheers,

Dave

I just learned something about German culture... Never heard that before. But then again, Restaurants were never my world...

BTW: It is spelled Pommes Frites - it is just pronounced "Pomm Fritz" in Germany, and "Pomm Frit" in France...

150th Maintenance .. yeah! what would we do without the Maintenance folks ... well, we would be walking for starters, then using clubs insted of weapons, and building fires with pieces of wood instead of tent heaters, and ... well, I don't need to go on, now do I?

Cheers,

Dave
