Default Kick down switch gone Bad?

Anyone have a kick down switch gone bad?.

On my 88 - I think mine might be going bad. Symptons - sometimes it drops when I stand on it and sometimes it wont. Ive tried this procedure at the same speed - 65 mph. Or am I missing somthing?

TIA and Happy New Year (Be safe)

My '89 was not working, I assumed the switch was bad. It was just out of adjustment and was being touched but not switched at full throttle. Since I had bought a new one I changed it anyway, it wasn't expensive. Make sure it clicks when you push the pedal all the way down. Everything has to be adjusted correctly to get wide open and kickdown.

Andrew,

Your's is working better then mine. The kickdown switch did
cause a kickdown, but it also caused a big voltage drop (from
12.5 to 10.5). Not too bad for a momentary burst of speed, but
it is a real pain in an open road race, where I'm on full throttle
for many miles. After a few miles, my charging system couldn't
keep up, and I start losing power. I had to disconnect the switch
to keep the car running for a whole race. I haven't fixed the
problem yet, since I've got so many other things to straighten out.
So I don't know if it's the switch shorting out or something else
in the system causing the problem.

Andrew
My 88 will sometimes kickdown to 2nd at 65...more like 63.....about 60 is perfect for a nice double downshift....BWAAAAAAAAAH session....you mean double kickdown right? I think 60 is about the limit for a 2nd gear downshift, since the car only goes 80 in second? The way I understand it the car will downshift to 1st gear (all assumptions based on warm tranny) below about 20mph, 2nd below 60, 3rd below about 120?.....its nice to be cruising 100...punch it and get pushed back in the seat!

It does sound like your kickdown is a little out of adjustment...when the tranny is set right, it is almost instinctive in what it does....at least thats how mine feels, the shifts are always sharp and gives a nice kick when you need it!

Check with a parallel switch to see if its the switch or something at the box (solenoid), or the TV cable adjustment.
