The carpet is called Sliver, NOT SILVER. The carpet kits should have all the door panels side of the console tool kit panels ready to be final fitted and glued in place. The floor carpets rear cargo rear seat backs are seamed and edge finished formed to fit . It does take some time to install . Since you are doing all of it you can change the color or use less expensive domestic carpet material if you wish. New carpet of any kind does help restore the new car feel.

Well, I'm not sure about "huge" as it's all relative.

It is a lot of work. In my kit, and I understand this is standard, the pieces are cut roughly to shape. You've got to do a bunch of trimming to make it fit. The pieces are all flat carpet. There are no molded pieces in the car. Plenty of time spent fitting, glueing and clamping the pieces. Plenty of time spent taking the old carpet out. I fabbed up some new foam rubber pads, too. Gotta take the door panels off to do those right.

Does sound pretty involved. Much less work than an engine re-build or paint job. None of it is skilled work.

The pieces in the kit I bought had about 2 inches of excess all around, cut to a shape that approximated the piece. You obviously cannot fold this stuff and forget about it like you can with a christmas present- you need to cut that excess and paste it down on the backside of each piece. If you half-*** this job, you can do it quick, with horrible results. Otherwise, you do it right and do it like I did: Pick a few panels each night and work on them. It's not hard work...there is just a lot of it and your effort determines your result.

Normy is right. The two main import carpet providers both require final fitting and cutting to do a really pro job. It takes about 40 man hours to replace all the carpet properly from start to finish.

Good luck.

It's sliver, not silver. Too many people don't realize they are spelling and saying it wrong.

I installed the SilverKnit kit. Not a big deal, just allow some time and think and measure before trimming. Yes, every carpeted peice is there in the new kit .
BUT-

The replacement Silver Knit I got is not as nice as the factory original, in my opinion. The weight of the new stuff is lighter and the pile is different. The bound areas are done with cheap vinyl, there is no rubber dead-pedal cover (they use cheap vinyl), you have to stitch your old rubber one on for a factory look. Same thing with the carpet under the pedals. I stiched the original rubber to that peice also.

New carpet will make your car look great. I never realized how bad my original carpet was soiled and worn until I got it all out and installed fresh carpet. I cut new fiberboard panels for the tunnel/center console area since mine were somewhat broken and distorted. I did a carpet color change from grey-beige to cashmire and the car looks really good.

Hi Greg.

I am presented here in Australia with a good buy for an imported carpet kit but its Ivory. My car needs more of a Tan color. Did you mind running me through the process to Dye and make the color change. Old thread I know.

A lot of work to dye a full carpet set. The main issue is rinsing. Leaving any residue will often leave the cut ends of the fiber sticking together making the carpet look old.
I'd do it on a set I was trying to salvage, but have serious reservations on doing a new set.

It's called sliverknit because the end of each cut fiber is slit, much like a hogs hair bristle in a good quality paint brush.
This gives it the full look and soft feel without adding more fiber. A great way to create plush on the cheap.
When residue and dirt get on the ends, they cling together and you lose the look and feel.

The loose pieces are not hard to dye and rinse. They can go in a clothes washer and come out pretty good from what I've heard.
The backed pieces are a lot harder. A rubber and jute backing make it harder.
And there's the trim. No telling what color the vinyl trim may turn out to be.

If they give you the set for free or close to it, it might be worth it.

I'd be remiss if I didn't plug Classic 9 Leather Shop for your carpet kit

Yeah I know of them but I am not really at carpet stage. And post to Australia is the killer. This set has come up for $400 AUD around $300 US. Just thought I would consider it as its a good saving. The ivory color may work with Beige seats.

Default Complete Carpet Set from the UK

I'm looking at a complete carpet set from design911 in the UK. Currently waiting on confirmation of the colour match (fingers crossed), and with postage to Oz and the UK-AUD exchange rate it will be about AU$1,800. I don't think that is unreasonable, provided I can get the right colour. I'll let you know how I get on.
