to Steve J.:

Thank you, I found that requirement in the manual, but your comment is exactly that what I am looking for. It is very easy to not see those hints in the manual so to have more information input is highly appreciated.

to heinrich:

The problem is to pont out a translation error when having problems with my own translation all times

to all:

starting to look for the parts in the 928 international catalog. Extreme differences in the prices from them to german prices! Mostly they are much much cheaper, for example:
exhaust valve 30 $ = 25 Euro, Germany 85 Euro!
oil filter 6.50 $=5 Euro, Germany 17 Euro

but some parts are cheaper here:
wheel cap with inlaid crest 36$=27 Euro, here 25 Euro (ok, not much cheaper)

This will be a lot of shopping!

Why not put 968 valves in it since you have the opportunity, also the cheapest place to buy most parts is Australia, those valves you talk about are about 15 euros roughly. You can speak to DrNick about how much he saved buying his GTS ring set through a contact I gave him.

That price I gave you is the price when I last inquired, about a year ago, try the contact I gave DrNick, ask him if he was happy with the service he got from them. They may even be cheaper now. You just need to ask. What about second hand valves, I maybe able to sell you a whole set of intake valves that are in good order.

Now the engine is completely disassembled.
Crankshaft bearings were measured ok.
Piston rings need replacement.
Piston rod bearing will be replaced also.
And the 32 valves off course.

For better resolution:

cylinders
lower crankcase
prepared to measure main bearing play
measuring crankcase bearing pict. 1
measuring crankcase bearing pict. 2

Started shopping for the parts.

harald, is that you or are you the one taking the pics and paying someone double time at new-years to work on your engine! nice pics, quick work too. if you are replacing the valves then will you put in the 968 intakes? dont forget to take a look at the oil return holes in the pistons too.

Nick,

no paying, that´s what friends are for!

Called him on december 23rd, 3 pm that I need him and his trailer to pick up this car. Pretty surprising for him, but I did not know that I would buy this car 4 hours earlier, just a quick chance. We came back on the 24th, 2 am, so we did only a one hour check of the car so we were home at 4 am on christmas. Then we started on december 31st from 10 am to 4 pm, then there was party time.
Continued (due to a long party) on new year from 3 pm to 8 pm and on sunday from 10 am to 3 pm.
Than everything was finished and his workplace as clean as before.
Nothing you could ever pay, as I said, just friends...

For the valves I would like to stay with the original as I would like to do with the rest of the car. Only 2 exeptions, one for the radio which I replace with a becker traffic pro high speed (and it can be built back to teh original) just for the navigations purpose and the second one to a ne catalytic converter due to emission and tax reasons in germany.

Still organizing the parts, greg is great help,

Harald

Harald, I'm not sure if S4 valves work in a GTS, but this might be something you'd be interested in:

Hello Matt,
thank you for this hint, yes, S4 valves are the same from 87 on. The 86 S4 has a different part number. I am going to check with the seller.

Harald
