Thumbs up Shift lever hard to move

Hi guys, I have a 86 928-s . the last week or so when I start to move it ,
the gear shift (automatic) is very, very hard to move from park thru R/N
all the way to DRIVE. Anyone have a salution to this problem? It is easer
to move thru the others (lower).
Thanks for any advice on this. THE FARMER

The shift cable has an inner wire core and an outer sheath. I suspect the inner wire is coming apart and will soon break. You would need to get under the car preferably on a lift and look at the rear of the cable driver side of the trans where it attaches to the small arm on the transmission. You could also unhook the cable from the trans arm and see if it moves freely.
