I am actually trying to do the same thing with one of my cars. I know that Washington will take the title if the car has been inspected and New Hampshire will too if you have an insurance adjusters report and the car has to be inspected. I think that Georgia may be able to, but not certain. If you hear anything about this I would be happy to hear it. What state is the Certificate of Destruction from? Mine is from Florida. Good luck!

it's a FLA COD and can't be converted in NC...
it's an ebay car.. I spoke to him earlier, might REALLY be worth checking into if someone can find a way to get it street legal
his reserve is $3100

My honest advice would be to stay away. I have too much time (2 years) and money invested in my car to do anything now. It is very very tough to get it titled again, trust me I have been trying for a few months. I can tell you that NC, VA, and PA will definetly not title it. If you do go for it, good luck, if I find anything out about Georgia I will let you know.

I have to agree with Maciek. I live in Colorado, but looked into every bodering state plus Texas, South Dakota, and Idaho. I understand the process in Colorado is very difficult, impossible in some cases.
My '79 is a salvage title. While not untitled as destroyed, some of the same problems occur with salvaged titles. The car is perfect, but there is no way I can get a clear title with an insurance totaled car. I got it very cheap partly because of that and intend to keep it. When I eventually sell it, I'll just have to pass the savings on to the next guy.
It's all about what you want it for.

when you ask about a "new" title is it possible that you mean "clean"? As in free of any brands saying the car has past damage? Oregon issued a title for my car with this nugget in the reserved box on the paper- "Previous Damage-AK". Alaska can't elaborate on what that might mean. Oregon doesn't have a clue what motivated the clerk on duty that day to write what she did. Regardless, its there and it hasn't effected the resale value yet!

Washington. Btdt. But clean ... no. Not clean. And it's on the car's record forever ..... that never goes away. I recently found out a car I was buying had been destroyed in Virginia. In 1992.

I have a friend here in PA who's business is buying totalled cars (flood, theft, collision), repairing them and then selling. In PA, you have to show proof of the 'restoration/repair' including parts and pictures and then get a title w a notation (a restricted or R title) that, I think, shows why the R title was issued. I know he buys cars from out of state so I'm not sure why the statement was made about not being able to title in PA..unless there is some rule about the 'certificate of destruction' title.

The "$50 GT came from Jim Morehouse's friend in PA. After I "reconstructed" the car Jims friend helped me title the car in PA. It was a PITA, with the State rejecting the application the first time for some BS.
It went through the second time and the title says "reconstructed" on it. The car came with a NY title. I can't remember if it said anything about condition on the NY title, but it probably said salvage. It took 5 weeks each time to get an answer from the state. So, it is possible to do it in PA but you have to reconstruct the car and pass inspection and document the process completely with receipts for all parts used. Also if used parts were installed, proof of origin. I told them that all new parts were used and provided copies of bills. I don't know if a non PA resident could do this but doubt it. It was worth it to get a "brand new" '91 GT. Check my web site for the story and pictures. http://members.rennlist.com/captearlg/

the issue is this, Fla will NOT give a title, only a COD... no matter what I say, do or show NC will NOT give me any type of title no matter what
I can buy a car with Salvage title and rebuild under NC rules (pre and post inspection), I have done this before (and doing it now with another car) but this one doesn't qualify
the gent selling the vehicle says it runs great, he thinks insurance company issued the COD due to age, mileage and circumstances (Ivan)... it would be a shame to see this car torn apart..
