Well all was not a loss. Richard and I learned how to RE-Locate a dislocated shoulder even if it wasn't successful. Ernest learned where he should pee and how to re-pack his wheel bearings.

Roger, I came up with some extra tools and am missing some. I have an extra adapter and a 3/8" extension and am missing a 17mm 1/2" drive socket.

Richard, I've started the repairs on your belly pan and it will be ready for the next get together.

The new mounts make a big difference! Thanks to Roger for providing the space and hospitality and for finishing my car! Thanks to Doc for all the help and to Ernie for bringing the electric rattle gun. Ernie was useful for whenever we needed one clean hand.

OK Guys, with all these dead mounts, someone please get out the calipers - and measure the amount of collapse - curious to see if one can correlate the collapse distance with degree of annoyance/urgency to replace.
I believe a new OEM mount is 78mm: My '88 mounts with 34K (55KKm) on them measured 68mm, a 10mm collapse when replaced. With my car, the 'butt-meter' registered vibration as did the steering wheel - but only for 10-15 min: once the mounts were warm, the vibrations diminished - suggesting I could have stalled on the job for months. When the steering rack died, opportunity presented itself and out they came.
I was able to measure the height while installed ( piece of soft copper wire as a gauge); therefore, with a few more data points linked to the drivers observations, perhaps it may provide a qualitative guide to someone undecided on MM replacement. Perhaps they were all on the other extreme " shoulda' replaced 'em 2 years ago", but thought I'd ask ....

Hi Garth,
I have quite a collection of collapsed Porsche mounts.
93 GTS 75K, 89 S4 111K, 88S4, 91GT 60K.
I will take phot's of each set and measure the height.
They were all shot and down to the metal.
Best,
Roger

Roger,
You are the motor mount expert! How many have you changed total? Did you guys use the Anchor mounts? To bad that I couldn't be there but there is always an next time.
Did the tester arrive in time and did you guys play with it? John and I narrowed the faulty part down to the ISV sticking when cold on my GTS. But before I change that part I will collect everyhting to do the WYAIT approach. It doesn't make sense to pull the manifold and not powdercoat it plus the valve covers.
It's time to get the shopping list ready for this project:
Valve cover plug hole gaskets, flappy vacuum motor, ISV, hoses, idle/ full throttle switch....

My first "Tech Session". Very successful. The new motor mounts have made a remarkable difference. Big job - well worth it.

Much thanks to everyone for their patience on a newbie like myself. I continue to be amazed at the selflessness of the 928 owner.

Thanks to Jim, Doc and Roger. AWESOME!

Roger - Thanks to you for the hospitality. My thinking is we need to bring the family in to actually swin in that pool - not step in it.

Thanks again to all!

Richard

Earnest- I had a broken collarbone that a "friend" quickly diagnosed as a dislocated shoulder and tried to re-adjust...Man, that hurt!!! I have had the good fortune to know what many other broken bones are like as well, thanks to the 2 wheelers. The collarbone was one of the worst because you just can't get comfortable for a couple weeks.
Good luck.

Thanks for the good wishes. Fortunately my collar bone, or clavicle, is intact, but I can just imagine the pain created by the reduction maneuver when the clavicle is broken. OUCH and a half!!

There are at least three, if not more, people in the North Texas area who intend to powder coat their intakes and cam covers. It's a difficult job to do as a tech session as it's a multi-step operation, but if Roger is willing to put his and two other cars up for a week it can be done in consecutive weekends. One weekend to tear down, the week to get the powder coating done, and one weekend to reassemble. I can research powder coaters in the DFW area if you like. Both Steve and I have BTDT and could help.
And I PROMISE to stay away from the #&%^$*% pool!!

Ernest,
Would a bottle of the finest single malt scotch help a little?
Or a couple of extra nurses (just kidding Pam).
Feel well quickly my friend the 928 community needs your wrenching ability.
