Default Seat leather repair

So the driver side - seam on the lower/outside corner needs some stitching and it seems that doing the job with the seat cover removed would be thewayto do this properly. So I undo the zipper as far as it will go and I don't see where to go next with this "seat undressing". There appears to be some type of fastening on the rear, lower edge that doesn't seem to want to let go.
Also looked thru the archives but no help there. Anyone done this?

I believe the seat cover is also held into place here and there with "hog rings' the are metal barbs that are crimped around the frame. Usally the stiching pulls loose as the leather shrinks, there may not be enough material to pull the seem tight. you should try softening the hide first for a few days to loosen it up.

I would also recommend removing the seat, which you already may have done, and take it to a good repair shop. they can repar them in no time, or may be able to replace a panel.

I agree. Both the early and late model seats are a nightmare of pads, wires and hog rings. Treat the leather and take it to a professional shop to see if they can re stich it.

Now to go slightly OT. s928s, that's a cool 928 pic in your avatar. Do you have a large version of it?

There is a guy on Ebay (944 and 928) that advertises a seat 'kit' for ~$250. Made out of leather like vinyl and in the factory colors. Replaces the factory leather entirely. I wonder if anybody has tried his products. I need a set of sport seats recovered but don't want to be the guinnea pig.

Scott
p.s. I'm looking for another set of sport seats if anyone has a pair (good, bad. or ugly)

I've got a very nice set of sport seats ... a full 5spd drivetrain would have been very tempting ... I'm pretty fond of it though. I think S4+ sport seats are getting almost impossible to find.

They hugged me a bit tight in the kidneys. Did you ever dye them?

Pictures? I have yet to see how so many of my former interior parts came together in your car.

JE928Sx4,
I have a larger pic I can email, it is too large to post. The picture itself is of a painting my brother did years ago. acrylic on canvas aprox 3' x5'. i had someone here shrink it to "avitar" size. i was hoping to keep is a little larger to see some of the detail..didn't work out !!
