Here is the problem,
Lets say the dealer gives her $9000 for the 928 trade in. She thinks wow that is close to what my Porsche crazy husband wanted (The making H cry is just a bonus). The problem is we do not know how much the dealer made on the Pontiac. Lets say they made $4000 on the sale. They are really giving her $7000 for the 928 and "only" making $2000 on the new car. They just play with the numbers.

Jim, the reason I ask is that I talked to the p.o. of my '87 S4 who traded it in on a subaru and got $4500 for it. Now I'm depressed...mostly at the treatment these cars get from most people AND especially a dealer.

Dealers for the most part are AFRAID of 928s it is too easy to have something expensive go wrong while the car sits on the lot. Plus many people have no ethical issues with trading in a car with problems ,like it will not pass smog, transmission slips when cold, engine seizes when hot (thrust bearing), engine a/c compressor bottomed out and broke the engine block which is now J B "welded" to keep it from leaking. Etc.. The typical GM dealer makes about $1,000 average gross on the sale plus another $1,000-1,500 in backend finance ,warranty, dealer add ons. There are some additional year end volume rebates some of which is offset against factory advertising. It is nearly impossible to get a dealer to tell you exactly how much in real dollars they are putting into the trade. If you are ordering a car often they give you a number and suggest that you sell your car yourself that number is inflated so that IF you sell your car they make an extra $1,000-1,500 on no trade deal when your new car comes in.

Heinrich,
Did you buy the car back from the dealer? I am sure they could shed some light on the 13k.
Not many shark owners would make that sacrifice, Good Job!!!

13K in one month....433 miles a day....hmmm 20mpg (optimistic) so thats about $1500 in gas! You should try to find the new owner and find out where he went!

She offered me the car on the 17th (we agreed I would get the money and buy the car) and I sold the sc on the 18th. By the time I had the check from the sale of the sc, she had already traded it in days before. Many words were exchanged and some sleepless nights were had. Enough said.

Well, two round trips from Seattle to NYC take care of 10K ... and it is the perfect long distance eater. Not a good drug courier b/c of the cop magnet factor.
Maybe a travelling salesman?

Ford Crown Vics (even Interceptors) can't get over 131-136MPH
Chevy Impalas (VASP highway variety) get up to 139-141MPH
Who cares if it's a cop magnet?
