Now only if they'd supercharge it with a big damn blower through the hood. Looks like all they've got is a turbo on it.

Awesome! I just wish they woul have used a Mercedes, BMW or Audi V8 turbo diesel insstead. Or mayabe the Vw V10 with 313 HP - but I'm afraid it would rip the transmission into pieces...

Tthe new turbodiesels are so much fun! Too bad they have been outlawed in CA...

Lots of torque, a lot less fuel, probably less maintenance, and a unique blend of two fine machines...

Rumor has it that there is one or two of those running around in here also. Either with MB or BMW inline six diesel. Reasoning in purely financial. Diesel fuel is cheaper. If one drives more than 20k kilometers per year it makes sense in ones wallet to convert. Not many 928 owners drive that much and I can't see the point of converting as with that much mileage it's cheaper to buy new VW Colf Diesel every three years anyway.

It would make even more sense to buy a new hybrid diesel/electric if economy is the name of the game. The initial investment would be hard to offset I would think, unless you bought one without an engine.

I could see a project like this starting at a pub after a few dozen rounds. Towards the end of the evening, one of the parties at the table slamming his fist down yelling:
"**** off, I could to put a diesel motor in my 928, I'll prove it!"

The rest is history.

Ever see Jay Leno's 400+ hp Ford Festiva? Only a few were made, the idea and concept started with a very similar story as the one I proposed above.

And look! Without all that "crap" hanging off the support brace you can paint it
,and it looks so Danishly clean.
I agree with Flint, WTF?
I agree with Joe, What's the purpose -diesel/maint./mileage/money aside- ?
I have a history of saying" it's your sHARk, it's your call.
So:
Stuff a 350 chev in it.
Make a pick-up truck out of it.
Cram a GTS motor in that 79'.
Mate that new Mercedes 7speed auto/paddler to the Euro.
Paint it purple with yellow daisy's, or, pimp green with orange sunflowers.
Velvet interior -Royal Blue- with brocaded draw curtains -Gold Braided- rope tie-backs.
SC.
Twin turbo.
Graphite TT.
1 inch road clearance.
Wheel tubs by Big Daddy Roth.
Straight pipes.
Continental Kit.
BUT, a diesel? I'm drawin' the line!

That diesel looks like the BMW engine that Ford offered for a year or two in the Lincoln Mk 7 back in the late '80's. I wonder what the bellhousing bolt spacing looks like...and how close it is to the bellhousing on our 928's. I guess he may have fabricated an adapter plate, but you know that's a rather specific pick...that particular engine. I wonder if that's a bolt-in....

[Interesting: There's a guy here in Orlando who has a carburated Jaguar V12 in his chevy pickup because the bellhousings on the V12 and small-block chevy's are identical...]

PS- In that engine bay picture...the coolant and brake fluid reservoirs are on the wrong sides....is that a UK thing?

Wow, I didn't know about those. Were there many? Did they run well?
