I thought the term ' flappy ' was, normally, applied to ALL
Mass Air Sensor (MAS) equipped sHARKs ...? Am I wrong?
To be truthful, procrastinating slug that I am, I even apply the term 'flappy'
to my Weissach (82'), and my son, Zack's, White (81'). They may be Air Flow Meter
(AFM) equipped - has the old VW bus gate type trottle body restrictor - but I consider the 90 degree 'corner flap' type to be a flappy as well. I pull mine every year and clean it top to bottom, inside and out.

There is a lot of flapping taking place in Rennlist.
I think you're confusing the vane type airflow sensor with the resonance valve. They are two complete different animals.
The vane airflow sensor uses the movement of the rotating vane to provide air flow information to the L-Jetronic computer (US 1980 - 1984). Many fuel injected cars use this type of airflow sensor.
All LH-Jetronic fuel injection cars use a hot wire sensor to provide a more accurate mass airflow value (Euro 928s 1984 and later, US 928s 1985 and later). Most modern cars (gasoline and diesel) now use this type of airflow measurement.
The resonance valve , AKA flappy, is a method to tune the air intake system for resonance at low and high RPMs. This enables a much flatter torque curve to be enjoyed. Our 928s had this beginning in 1987. Many other cars use this technique, including 911s (993 and later).

I am pretty sure is a bad vacuum leak...my car had the same problem, in fact it was so bad i tought sometimes the car would jump whem doing the shakey thing...
Problem? A heavily leaky Intake manifold, alng with some bad hoses...
Problem solved, car running like new afterwards...

Problem resolved. It was the MAF going south. Just installed a new maf, thanks to jim at 928 intl. Runs better than ever.
To all who offered suggestions, much thanks.
To the rennlisterwho didn't help by trying to sell me a broken maf as new, thanks for nothing and wasting my time.

A less than straight shooting fellow who is more active in the 951 arena but posted that he had a "new 928 MAF" for sale on this list a short while back.
I ultimately got reimbursed by fedex so I did get money back, but not the money I paid to the seller, who kept my $ and the returned maf as well.
So...if "fast951" offers to sell it again on this list, don't make the mistake I did.
Just deal with the reputable sellers of 928 parts like 928intl, devek, and 928 specialists. It's not worth the possible chance of saving a few bucks. Although I did get reimbursed by fedex in the end, over a month of time was wasted trying to resolve things.
I ultimately got reimbursed by fedex so I did get money back, but not the money I paid to the seller, who kept my $ and the returned maf as well.

I did sell you a NEW MAF, and you looked at it and it was new. I shipped you the MAF, which was lost by the shipping company, then when you received it you informed me that the package was damaged and there is a rattle inside the MAF (under the plastic cover). You went ahead and filed a claim with the shipping company. I went out of my way to make sure you got your money back. The claim was initially denied, I spent plenty of time talking to the shipping company to reverse their decision. I even faxed them paperwork requesting they settle directly with you not me. I kept checking with them, and I believe I'm the one who informed you that your check went out.. I believe you got paid from the shipper MORE than you paid... (now you didn't tell them that did you?)
Without my request, the MAF was sent back to me. AFTER you got your money back, I opened the MAF to investigate the problem. Initially I didn't notice a problem, and I told you so. You requested I reship the MAF back to you, and you will pay for the shipping. While I was assembling the cover back on the MAF I noticed the problem, and I emailed you promptly. I never did hear back from you...
Let's see, when I initially told you the MAF was fine, you wanted it. Let's see about being a straight shooter. You got your money back (actually more than you paid), and you wanted the MAF which is no longer yours (remember you got your money back). Yes a FREE MAF would have been nice. Oh yes, you were planning to send the check back to the shipping company???
So what makes me the bad guy here? The MAF was new and working fine when I sent it to you. It got lost and damaged! I go out of my way to make sure you get reimbursed, and you did.. Now I'm the dishonest one???
It's so nice dealing with people like you, it makes me want to go out of my way to help out... I did not sell you a bad MAF, I'm sorry it got lost and damaged, I'm sorry you had to deal with a lost and damaged product (but it was not my fault). I'm sorry I had to spend the time dealing with this. What I'm really sorry about is the way you turned out and the fact that I went out of my way to help you out...

The buyer has been made 110% lossless, except for his time, which is compensated for in the amount overpaid by shipping company.
The seller now is the proud owner of a dead MAF. Not much value there. Seller does however have buyer's money. Where should this money go? To answer this, I think we can look at shipping company SOP: Sender claims; sender receives check; sender reimburses buyer.
Seller should likely IMHO have returned buyer's money immediately *upon receiving item back from buyer*, and claimed for himself, thereby getting the extra if there was some.
END RESULT:
Buyer has a nice MAF, waited a bit long but has extra money.
Seller has lost a MAF but has buyer's money compensating him.
WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?

It's interesting how stories change. And there's more to the story than I posted. My only concern was to prevent the same MAF from being sold again on the list.
