Hi Everyone! I'm thinking (seriously) of getting a Shark to park next to one of my 951s.
I've done a search, but couldn't find anything on the differences between 928 interiors over the years.
I know the early 928, 928S have slightly different interiors than the S4's and GT.. (ie: the seats)
But I was wondering if you guys could point out the major differences (if any) between interiors between S4's GT's and GTS's.
I want to get an S4, but is there a difference between the interiors in 87 S4's and say 89 S4's ?
Photos would be really cool!
Thanks in advance!

Rich, check out the 928 registry, you should be able to get a good idea of differences

Hmm it seems the general door panels and such are pretty much the same on S4's and GT's ... Do any of the later models have updated center consoles? I heard that some models do not have the trays under the dash, is this correct?

Up through MY 84 the seats, door panels and speakers (stereo systems) are different. Perforated door panels, 6 way seats (no thigh support) and an anemic (sp?) speaker arrangement. MY's 85 - 89 or 90 (though some 83's and 84's have it) had an upgraded two speaker door panel with screw on speaker gills, 85's on up to 95 had 8 way seats standard, with 12 way and heat optional plus better stereo options with an eight speaker system. 90 - 95 had the same door panels but with slightly different speaker grills that snapped on and a 10 speaker system. From MY 90 and on had a different dash setup with airbags and different glove box.
That's the short answer.

The '90 and up models had the most differences. The addition of airbags, changes in the center console design, an ergonimically better looking dash to center console, no ugly trays under the dash, different speaker design, etc. The '90 an up models just look so much cleaner and updated. I would strongly suggest a '90 or up if you want to have that new car look.
But the ultimate choice would be to go with the updated interior and exterior found in the '93 and up GTS. You get the newer interior along with the wider, more agressive body and wheels. Most people can't tell a GTS from a brand new car. This is based on personal experience, of course!
GO WITH THE GTS!
PS. In answer to your question, there is no difference in the interior of an '87 to the interior of an '89 except for digital dash instrumentation and the design of the speaker covers.

Well, there's no doubt I WANT a GTS over an S4. (Hell, I WANT a 959 over my 951's..) The issue is price.
low miler: do you have any photos of your GTS interior?
I looked on the 928-registry but the interior shots are sooo small./

Rich,
You drive a GTS and you'll never go back. S. Charger and you'll never even look back, except for every car in your rear view! As low miler said, 87-89 only dash (pod display-digital) and speaker grills were different. Oh, yeah, also in 88 they went to rear shoulder harnesses. So if the kids are in the back, they're a little safer!

The trays under the dash are easily removed in about 5min. Just a few bolts hold them on, and the mount points are unobtrusive once the part is removed.

I looked at 87-91 S4 and 93-94 GTS models when I was looking for my car. I ended up
with a 90 S4. The variation between individual cars was greater then the variation
between model years. So find one that you like and can afford. In general I found
that the 89+ autos accelerated faster then the 87-88s autos, and the 5 speeds seemed
to be more abused by the previous owners. Again it all depends on which cars are available
when you're looking.

Shane - no doubt. I'll organise it if I have too. but to be fair maybe this time we'll head south of the border - or east towards Osooyoos!
