Default Raced a Monte Carlo- I was victorious by not much!

Hi. Yesturday I raced a Monte Carlo-NEW. The guy at the light was anxious to test himself so we both floored it at about 15km per hour. I won, but I didn't feel superior in any way. By the time we got to 100kmph, I was only a car length ahead! Today I timed a 0-100kmph run the best I could. The machine produced the number 7.1seconds. Somethink is amuck here and I'm afraid I'm going to have to go deep to find this ongoing problem !! I love this car but it just doesn't have the ***** it should. Can someone reassure me how quick these cars can be. Where to start. Even after replacing regulator and dampers still a stinky diesel smelling car which gets lower gas mileage than usual!!!! In and out of love Mike.

I have a new Monte Carlo SS and while it has adequate performance and gets 29MPG, it is not even close to my 928.

Run it from 100-200kmph against that Monte and you'll feel a lot better.

Borrow other 928s to compare...

In my opinion, the 928 is fast, but only at cirtain speeds and rpms.

Off the line, it could indeed use some *****, thus everyone's constant obsession with supercharging...

http://www.928registry.org/1987-1991...model-info.htm gives you an idea of manufacturers specifications but I have NO doubt that there are some MUCH faster cars on this list.

[QUOTE=bcdavis]Borrow other 928s to compare...

That's like trying to get a Tan here in the winter. Very hard to come by. I do believe my car was faster at one time. It was awhile ago. I merged onto the freeway and even my passenger who has substantial weight said Holy **** upon kick down. I said it too, but to myself. Ahh the good ol' days.

The ss with a supercharger in it weighs 3500 lbs. Has 240HP,280 torque and a 2.93:1 rear end. Off the line it could be a problem with your 2.2:1 rear end . I was initially embarressed by a Mustang GT f the line to about 75, then it looked like he was stoped after that , by the time I looked in the rear mirror I was at 140. Thinks of it as a early Christmas present to that SS, he has bragging rights that he almost took a 928, be real he probably didn't even kow you model only that it was a Porsche.Ed M

Did I say anything about buying one? Oh no, not until you've tried swapping with a friend first. Alternatively John Speake can check yours for a nominal fee, try emailing him.

How much do you think it will cost John Speake to be flown over here?
