Default gt rims

I just bought a set of GT rims that have the hole for the tire pressure monitoring sensor. The wheels will be going on my 1982 928. What are my options for filling this hole as I understand the sensors are hard to come by and frequently leak? Also, is it possible to fit 245-45-16's out front and 265-45-16's out back?

Do a search. I remember reading about a rubber plug on this forum.

Just remove the leaking sensor and weld the hole. Had it done on one of my GTS wheels.

Three of the 4 wheels on the very brown 1980 are original GTS wheels. I used rubber freeze plug replacement plugs and silicone about 3 years ago they still hold air. Welding is the correct fix.

Are you sure, Jim?

Why add heat stress if there's no need? It's not like it has to hold a lot of pressure. And I presume the original grommet for the monitor system was rubber or plastic. So why take chances welding and spending $$ on unobtanium?

When you get the sender bung out of the wheel, please be careful with them. some on the list would probably like to have them. If it were me, I'd use a freez plug rubberr expansion to fill the hole.

The 265-45 in back should be okay, but the 245 in front might not go. It's kinda trial and error with what ever tire you choose. Some tires will have slightly different corner characteristics, and it's gonna be close in front.

Just would like to say thank you to all that replied. I will probably end up using the rubber plug method as it is less permanent than welding. Unfortunately none of the wheels that I received had the tire pressure sensors for those of you looking for them. Does anybody know for sure if 245's will work up front on the GT rims. If not what will be the best front and rear tire width combinations as the car will be used often for autocross events?

I think you're going to have a problem with the width of the 245 in front. It will probably rub the fender and will definitely rub if your fender is not rolled. I'm told that 235 is the widest you can go.

What is the offset on a front GT rim? I have 245/45-16 on all four 8 inch BBS wheels, with no problems. I don't remember the offset, but I could definitely check if needed.

I bought two extra rear 9" GT rims(forged version) and mounted them in the front with no issues at all.(on my -81S Euro)
They have 245:s on them.
I beleive the ET is 60mm on those, plan to have them all around as 9".

Cheers/Peter
