87 motor into 86.5 car
Hi fellas. I have a bored & stroked 87 motor I'm installing in my 86.5 928s. Has anyone here done this before? Can you alert me to any obstacles? My main concern is that I would like to use the 87 induction system. Does anyone know how I can adapt my 86 intake electronics (i.e. sensors) to the 87 intake?
Thanks in advance, Hammer

Don't think that is an easy answer, two different systems. Be mucch easier to get a wiring harness for the '87 engine along with a set of '87 brains and go from there. The '87 uses knock sensors which you would want with a stroked engine.

WE did it and it was not easy. You need to rewire the CEL for the S4 and later wiringharness...basically, lay down the two wiring diagrams and begin matching functions and swapping connector locations.
We installed the S4 brains also...it worked like a charm and turned out 400 rwhp..flappy working and all.
Did the same for a GTS into a 83 euro...

good question... I'm ramping up to do the same thing on my 85, w/an 89 stroker...
don't forget the front harness too - the sensors are located in different places w/the different intakes...
mark, could you set it up/what parts would you need? ie already have the S4 harness/85 harness... would you need the CEL to ECU harness or is that a bugger to pull/best done in the car?
thx

How long do these MM typically last?
My shark has 57k. What is the average when they really wear out? Or is there a test to see if they are shot. Pretty sure they are toast in my 83. For those who care anyway.

my stroker came/is coming from my 85 block, 89 heads/etc... specs/details are on web page/signature link... can't imagine how you do more than 1 of these a year w/all the detail and custom stuff that goes into one of these... guess that's why you're the stroker king... any thoughts on what you'd need/want to do the re-mapping/connector change thing? sounds like you've BTDT enough to do it pretty fast/right the 1st time...

Hi Mark,
The engine is a 87 core that I modified (ported heads, 968 valves, g-force valve springs, Trick Titanium retainers, etc.). The stroker kit I bought from you a few years ago. (the premium kit)
I was thinking of transferring all sensors from the 86 intake to the 87 intake & fabbing up the throttle linkage. Feasible?
