Default My kid won't live to his next birthday!

The boy is going to be history if he gets any where near my car again. The recent repaint was perfect until last weekend. One half of my ten year old twin boys decided he was going to try and squeeze his mini bike out of the garage between the front of my 928 and a storage shelf. As luck would have it the metal foot peg on his bike and the front valance on my car are the same height. I am sure you can guess the out come. I am not sure if I should give him a through caneing or build some stalks in the front yard to put him in for a week! Aren't kids wonderful!

Jim:
This may not make you feel any better, but would you mind telling me where you had your car painted that produced perfect results? I am always on the lookout for competent AND responsible shops or craftsmen, both of which combined are rare animals it seems these days. I am not so far from Reno that, if necessary, I would mind taking my shark there. I need a clear coat repair of the roof especially and was planning to do it myself....unless I can find a good shop.

Thanks.

Ron

Just tell yourself: "It's only a car. It's only a car. This is my little son, and this time I have with him will never come again. It's only a car."

Then, collapse to the ground shrieking and sobbing over and over again, "My car! My beautiful car......." until the hysterics frighten him and scar him emotionally for life.

Works for me.

Joke!

I thought that w the benefit of twins were that all you needed was one and the other's a spare. But really, does your year have a front spoiler or was this on the painted surface?

It was the painted surface of the lower section of the front bumper cover. Honeslty, it's not too horrible. The scratches are not too easy to see unless you are down on your hands and knees at that level. I may see if I can find one of those duplicolor paint pens that is close to my color. It won't be perfect but like I said it is in a somewhat hidden area. Ron. When I said perfect, I ment not a scratch any where. I did all the body and prep work on the car and had a local painter that I know shoot on the base and clear. I had all the trim peices off the car, along with the windshield and front and rear bumper covers removed. He charged me $1500.00 for materials and labor. This is by no means a show quality paint job, but I am quite happy with it. The pic was taken before the recent event.

I like kids.
They taste like chicken, though it is difficult to make a decent gravy.
Even using the young, tender ones.
Jeff Dahmer had a recipe but wouldn't part with it, like he said in prison ...
"over my dead body".
My neighbors, my kids and their friends have no wish to see a remorseless, dead-eyed
reaper as their last view of this world. Wide bearth!
Heart ache ain't it?
I suppose you learned something about the way your son thinks,
and, no doubt, he now knows a little about how you think.
Real world topic especially given the age spread Poll.

Jim,

Speaking as one who once opened a can of stain for fun and then accidently spilled it down the front of my dad's Alfa Spider, I suggest forgiving him.

If memory serves me right, I spend a silent hour sitting in the middle of my room for that one while I thought about what I had done.

Perhaps many, many years from now perhaps he will be a Rennlist Member and join here to take care of his old man's 928? So, leave the scratch and then laugh years from now when he complains about having "to sand, buff, blend and coat this stupid scratch on the car" remind him that it's his fault. When he's older he'll wish he had taken an extra thirty seconds to carefully move his bike.

Default How about this for tears

A friend had his 3 week old Mustang convertible in the driveway and his then 6 yr old had seen dad lovingly washing and waxing it frequently so he decided to help while dad was away - a hose, a little soap and a SOS pad did wonders to one side of the once shinny new vehicle.
This was followed up a fewweeks later by-he thinks he knows which neighbourhood kids - a water hose left running inside on the front floor til someone saw the small river of water pouring out under the doors.
I belive that all of the kids have survived.

With kids you need a car cover even in the garage. If nothing else, it will help you relax. Bicycles have so many sharp edges, and so many ways they can inflict injury on something so nice and so smooth... What about rakes, lawn mowers, toys, broom handles falling over? It's a dangerous world, even in your own garage.

There are guys here in california that will come to your house and sand out the scratch and airbrush the paint back to perfection. Had them do it on my Jag after a valet dropped a bag from the trunk a little too close to the bumper. Couldnt even tell he had touched it. Highly reccommend it. Any big new car dealer can probably refer you to someone they use.

Hey man, I can sympathize, I just had my '85 928S re-painted when my youngest boy (12), walked through the garage with really muddy shoes, leaving tracks all through the garage. I stopped him at the door and told him he had to clean his shoes off if he planned to wear them into the house. He turn walked to the iron railing around the side of my back porch and raked his shoes along the top. His weight on the railing was too much, the railing has seperated from the concrete now. As he starts back into the house, still leaving muddy tracks along the way, I yelled leave those damn shoes outside. He stuck his foot out the door and shook his muddy shoe off his foot and flipped it up onto the Porsche. He knew right away he was in trouble. I yelled some, I cried some... but his Mother won't let me kill him so...

Oh, my Dad would have been mad with me for days, if I had done any damage. The more severe, the more he'd be mad. Since he was always so busy and it was hard to get his attention anyway, I worked hard to avoid getting into any trouble. I did not cost him much in fixing things I had broken - I cost him a lot in other ways. Maybe that's why he had to keep so busy...

Jim:
You might try these guys: www.autovisuals.com or 877-701-7780.
They make a paint pen that they claim matches Porsche colors. I doubt they have one older than MY 1990, but they may know how to make one or do one on a custom basis. I would call, because they did not answer my email. They advertise in Panorama FWIW.
