Steve,
And you seemed like such a nice young man.
Who would have thought you were actually part of the criminal element?
You stay away from these other bad boy's who have been replying to this post,
they are no good and will just get you into more trouble especially that Ernest fellow...
Do the right thing... Bend over and take it like a man!
Bummer dude.
The only thing saving me is that the DPS yard is just 1/2 a mile from work so I know ALL of their unmarked cars.
I feel like a presidential candidate sometimes ... what with the escort and all.
A.M. at least 1 mostly two unmarked DPS mules, and one county mounty.
Last Friday coming home from THE poker game had a county car facing the wrong way in the southbound lanes 0f SH 349 pop on his lights and TAIL me to the IH-20 underpass where a Midland PD followed me up the west bound ramp onto IH-20 west to the Loop 250 exit where a DPS Trooper played peek-a-boo behind a F-250 all the way to Midkiff Road exit. This town is horrible for jurisdiction issues ... the three law enforcement groups nail ya' anywhere they want to with no hassels about turf.
I'm thinking that some of the stang/camaro/firebird/hotrod pick-up cabal ratted me out.
They were young and innocent -besides being on the weak side of the cam- mwhen I flogged them and let off. Being young they angered easily, and would roar past at ungodly speeds which for some reason attracts the caretakers of the ticket books

Definitely Catchy! I just got 2 tickets in a week One requires an appearance in court Monday at 8 am in North Carolina, unfortunately I am not in North Carolina right now and my attorney still hasn't gotten back to me. Anyone know what I can do? What happens if I am not there Monday?

Suspend your liscence and issue a bench warrant for your arrest.

It really depends on the mood of the judge and don't really know what you can do. You really can't make it for the court date? Maybe give them a call and ask for a continuance, to a date you can make.

No, there is just no way for me to be there Monday. My attorney was suppose to handle this for me but it looks like they dropped the ball. I called today to follow up and they said they were still looking for a local North Carolina attorney to send in and not to worry they would call me back. They never did I KNOW, I should have followed up sooner! I guess I will call the court house Monday and pray they aren't too harsh.

Call the court and ask to be allowed to speak to the judge at trial on telephone standby. When court convenes, you will be able to hear the procedings and the response of the prosecution and the judge because you will be on a speaker phone in court. Explain the situation and respectfully ask the judge for a continuance. You may be required to post bail so have a VISA handy. I have attended a trial as a defendant in a state other than California by telephone and we had a grand time gabbing back and forth.

If the request is denied and the judge issues a bench warrant, contact the court to determine the amount to extinquish the warrant and wire it there before setting foot in that state. Then you may pursue the matter.

Samantha, on Monday am you need to have your atty. call the clerk of court in the county in which you recieved the citation and explain that you are represented and by whom. Given the situation there should be no problem with a continuance, assuming that your atty is making an attempt. Otherwise you need to call the clerk and ask for one, they will usually work with you if you are making an effort to resolve the problem. They really don't want to have to do all the paperwork involved in a failure to appear, just to have it thrown out when you do get there with an atty.

You guys out of California must know the meaning of "reasonable". Relying on the clerks to convey your excuse for missing court to the judge will get you an instant warrant and a huge finearound here; ask me how I know. Maybe if you can prove you were giving birth at that instant you might get a reduced fine....maybe, but I doubt it. Ya gots ta get to da judge in person somehow in Kaleeforneeya.

Well I just got another ticket 68 in a 55 - Not my lucky week - two tickets!!!!!!!!!
I guess I was lucky as the first blip on the radar was when I was doing XXX and the first two numbers were not 10, 11, 12 or 13.
I was checking out the route for the fun run this coming Saturday - I guess we will not be taking that route.
Can I do drivers ed on the first one and defered adjudication on the second?

Thanks to all that offered advise. I made the call and they rescheduled for December. I consider myself lucky and I will be sure that either I or my attorney will be there no matter what! BTW I just purchased a jammer so I'll keep you posted as to how that goes

Thanks again!

I decided to go with the driver safety course and have the ticket dismissed. It was about $50 less than deferred adjudication would have cost (and I might need that next time - NOT). Also, maybe I will meet some hot babes in the driving course! I will be observing the speed limits tomorrow as the state troopers are out in force for the holiday. Sorry to hear about your double whammy, Roger. As far as our fun-run Saturday, do you think there's safety in numbers? They wouldn't pull over 15 sharks would they?

Rog:

Did you actually see the readout on the radar gun? Or did the smokey tell you he was "giving you a break" and "only writing it for 68"? It seems he wasn't able to nail you for what you were really doing before the V-1 saved you, so he just wrote it for enough to make it stick. That doesn't mean anything more than "I'll get you anyway even if I can't set a speed". A 2nd bust pending is no way to live. I would not lay down for it myself.

Samantha:

Check the laws for use of jammers. I know a guy that has a jammer but he would never admit it was there or that he uses it....to anyone.

Have a nice Thanksgiving. We are still alive. And we have sharks unlike many other unenlightened people. Go vegan.
