no official name, but at times its "the Red Menace" or the Panzerscheisswagen. But most often it's just the shark. Long ago before I was aware of the 928/shark connotation, I called my '64 Mercury "The Shark". I still think it fits that car as well as it suits our 928's.

Thumbs up

Jonser,
Bene, bene, molto bene!
When I jumped from Honda's to the 16v Suzuki's -750/1100/1150cc E/GS
series the Laverda's were still on my mind.
Do they still make em'?
Had the power not overtaken my logic circuts I would have bought the Red 750
I think they had three models the last year I was looking at them -was one a triple?- When I first saw the 'BIG Laverda twin I thought it was a Honda 350 on steroids.
Never drove one but sitting on that puppy gave me a good feeling.
Seriously when I was eyeballing it the tensioner, cam/point cover, alt cover and I even assumed there was a centrifugal type oil filter on the inside of the lower right case cover. Cylinders and heads looked Honda too down to fin spacing.
I liked it. Of course I like sleepers and cruisers. Lookin' for a used 1200cc Bandit which is Suzuki's version of a Rocket powered sofa.
My other dirty motorcyle secret is:
I used to abuse Japanese Motocross machines. My dirt mounts were 250 and open class 'MAICO's". Don't tell anyone.

"Inga" after Terry Garr's character in Young Frankenstein. She's at least as fun as a "roll in ze hay."

"Lilu" after Milla Jovovich in The Fifth Element. One bad-*** smokin' red head!

Yikes! I thought Kryptonite needed some paint!

My Sig . listen to "Jimmy Olsen's Blues" by The Black Crowes. Even us old geezers have fun sometimes.

Cheers,

Dave

"Buddy" - My wife named it. I guess I hang out with it like a buddy...working on it, cleaning it, driving it, reading about it,....enjoying its company.

The 928 does not seem like a "female" gendered vehicle to me. How is it determined?
New poll?! (oh no)

Black car is "the Godfather". It looks menacing just sitting there. And if you don't give it the respect it deserves, you will definately pay.

Green car is just "the green car". Hasn't revealed it's name to us yet. . . . . . . I think it's scared of Godfather

Dave...

Holy Cow! That looks like a small meteor crater on old Kryptonite! Poor thing. And the leaves in the wiper area are a nice touch too! I've got a leaf-collector myself.

And John... I'm not sure myself which gender a 928 ought to be. On the one hand, it's a beefy, aggressive, V-8 powered beast - sort of Porsche's very own muscle car. On the other hand, those curves... that rear end... that thrilling performance... Whoa, somebody slap me!

Unfortunately, my wife named my first shark, Black 87 street/track car she call "The Black Hole." It has a gravitational pull from which no money can escape!

Since my 89 GT was #1, it was just called, "THE GT."

My white 88 track car is, "Der Yeti." Because, it is a mythical white beast seldom seen (at the track) and known for it's blood curtailing HOWL!!

As for the gender of a car, I have always considered Porsches at large to be somewhat femenine in nature, though some more then others. Not to the point of being efemenate (sp?) mind you, nor girly or anything like that at all.

When a man devotes that much time and money and effort (sometimes blood) to something as fickel, beautiful, alluring, exciting, validating and humiliating as a Porsche 928, it's got to be a woman.

On the other hand, some may well have the genderless (black hole) or fully masculine (DER Yeti, not DIE Yeti) variety. Mine happen to be ladies, or rather one of them is. The other is gonna be more like a leather clad, german dominatrix in jack-boots, you will show her respect or you will be punished!

Not that I'm into that sort of thing...see the boots are like big tires, and she's black, and has leather interior, and is german...oh who am I kidding.
