Question HEADERS

Hi,
I was wondering what headers would do for a supercharged 928? Heres what I got cats cut off, x-pipe, a gts muffler, i got tims intake, intercooler, piping, fmu, blow off valve, adjustable fuel, otherwise vortec s/c, for $900 sounds pretty good but what can I expect as a power gain? are they worth it?

I do not believe anyone KNOWS for sure . 1989 GT with no headers but X-pipe no cats gained nearly 30 hp with high flow exhaust . Then with adj fuel reg and some MSDS headers gained about 20 HP BUT BIG BUT the horsepower at 4,000 to 5,000 was nearly plus 50 !! Previously when Mark Anderson tried different headers over the stock manifolds there was less than 10 HP but that was his 6.4 engine at higher output than stock and with the restrictive intake manifold. I really do not know.

The gains mentioned from headers are often really the gains from headers AND a different exhaust that was installed at the same time as the headers. I had a high flow exhaust with an "X" pipe on my S4, and then added the headers at a later date. The air/fuel mixture and ignition timing were tuned for best performance for both the before and after header setups on the dyno. A gain of around 10hp is what I saw from the headers as well.

HYK123,
I am somewhat familiar with your car. I would strongly suggest that instead of headers you spend that money on a new supercharger bracket and pulley setup instead. You'll get a much bigger power increase from that than from a set of headers, and the resulting new belt configuration will be much less likely to be a source of possible problems. If you do get the new bracket and pulley setup, I'd say to abslutely get your air/fuel gauge working to try and make sure your air/fuel ratio is not too lean.

the bracket im going to get for sure, with the pulley set up, i was just wondering if adding the headers would be worth it.

Default headers

I will tell you shortly.I am picking up my 89 gt from the shop in Colorado Springs tommorro with a f.a.s.t kit set up at 9psi. It had 333 rwhp with msds headers, chips moded airbox,2.5 duel exhaust w/ borlas before the blower.I am betting on around 460 rwhp. We will see!

tomboyea123,
Keep us posted on the results. Maybe you could get some performance figures too like 0-60 and 1/4th mi?

Default will do

Sure will, but the #s uncorrected will not be all that impressive. The 333 rwhp was corrected to sea level but not temperature. My old 911 ran a 14.76 in Denver and ran a13.87 in Memphis.Denver is about 5800 to 6000 ft and where I live in Keystone it is 9400 ft.Here ,we put blowers on not for fun but just to merge with traffic.

true dat tbea123..... Go east young man. There's thick air and 93 octane in them thar plaines.
I lived in Vail for 4 years and 1 in Denver as an adolescent. The old 5.0 Mustang prayed for thicker air.
I do miss this though. Do you recognize the wailer? or me?

Me again, almost dead on Vail pass.
